Why is this genre of rap music so popular versus the other varieties of hip hop out there? Why is the market for more positive productions so much smaller?

It's just a simple fad.
In a couple of years it's all change.
Because the people who like Rap, are going to get older.
And maybe start appreciating good music.
Like Tool.
People think that inner city gangsters are "tough" or "cool" and so want to be like them. That is why wiggers exist (the whitest white guys from rich suburbs who dress and talk like they are a Blood or Crip).
The beauty of the Second Amendment is that it will not be used until they try and take it away.Staff Officer of Corporal_Hicks in the Legion of Rahl

There are white Crips and Bloods as well. Those would be the ultimate wiggers I guess. I also kind of guess its sort of disappointing when you figure that these white people buy these records because they think whatever is on these gangster rap records represents what being black is all about. And being a Crip or a Blood is what being black is all about according to at least one white Setanta kid from the suburbs posting at TWC.

The powers delegated by the proposed Constitution to the federal government are few and defined. Those which are to remain in the State governments are numerous and indefinite. The former will be exercised principally on external objects, as war, peace, negotiation, and foreign commerce; with which last the power of taxation will, for the most part, be connected. The powers reserved to the several States will extend to all the objects which, in the ordinary course of affairs, concern the lives, liberties, and properties of the people, and the internal order, improvement, and prosperity of the State. - James Madison
^Lol at "wigger."
Most rap is noise not music, it hurts the ears to listen to. Rap is the music that people listen to because other people listen to it, not because they actually like it. There are a small group of exceptions though, like that "Remember the Name" song.

I think it is the type of lifestyle the whole gangster rap culture presents. Cars, women, lots of money, big rims, etc. Basically it is a live now culture. Young people see it and like it because it shows that they can do whatever they want by just being "cool". Rap used to mean something and there are still some good rappers out there but I think that music is so caught up in the industry with all the green that it isn't about making good music or anything that really matters. Now it is just make what it catchy and act as cool as you can be.

That plus the fact that many young kids are easily susceptible to such a culture. More so because their parents don't teach them about their own culture and background. Therefore, they fall into what seems the "coolest".
I don't listen to any sort of rap and I think "gangster" rap is despicable especially because it thrives on reducing women to sexual objects and encourages the weak-minded to take drugs.

LOL a fad for whom... when you talk about something like music who is it a fad for i don't know anybody that listen to "metal" maybe Pop music.. well rap has been the thing since almost the early 90's until some type of music comes and can over take it in beats and it lyrics there is no shot of it going any where.
yeah but that will be hard to do because of the fact that Rap has those beats and all the lyrics rhyme. Also it has the bad boy image behind it.
Another thing is having this conversation on this forum is going to be pretty one sided due to the fact that most of the people on here are not from the younger generation so.. i mean sitting here and debating you are only going to get the same arguments one being that Rap is not music (when you know it is), Rap is like Rock it is only a Fad (but for who blacks, and Spanish that is part of there culture), And Rap is the best (when you know it is not as good as it use to be) so now i have to ask a question for all the +28 age group on this forum and that is why do you hate Rap so much is it because there is such a strong message, or that it shows women of color shaking the butts on TV, Or is it that you want people to stop idolizing these rappers. I think i know what it is but i want to hear some responses before i continue on with this.

I like some Gangsta Rap.
People like it because they like it. It shouldn't be too complicated when it comes to taste in music.
