    Default Biblical Total War?

Okay, having just read a copy of "Battles of the Bible" by Chaim Herzog and Mordechai Gichon, I got inspired. The book tries to reconstruct the conflicts reported in the bible (pretty much starting with judges).

So I thought it would be fun to grab the crusades campaign of kingdoms and turn it into a biblical version.

Can have two kindgomds Israel and Judah in the center. Allies, much like Eastern and Western Roman Empires.

Add in the Assyrians, Babylonians, Egyptions, Hittites and even the greeks (though later).

The rub, of course, is doing the homework. Very few military artifacts survive. But instead of cavalry there would be chariots. Infantry, archers, spearmen, etc. Doing the homework on who has what would be the hardest part, though I'm starting to document that now myself.

Problem is, I'm rather graphically challenged. Anyone interested in collaborating in a project like this?

P.S. Disclaimer is this. Based, as much as is possible, on History. Not the bible (Christian, Jewish, Muslim or otherwise). Just try to set up a map with the appropriate powers and our best guess as to the appropriate troops.

Sounds good, but some silly people may be upset by it...

It would be interesting, but I don't see that much unit variation. You would have chariots, maybe some horsemen, swords, spears, and bows. Not much armor in this period either.

Well, I don't quite agree here. There is variation (though obviously not quite to the medieval level).

Israelites/Judeans/whatever in the early phase have little armour, and swordsmen, spearmen, archers and slingers. Very trible. As they settle and grow then their ability to field units goes up.

However the existing Canaanites, the hittites, and other civilized peoples can have much variety. Spearmen, heavy swordsmen (different types of armour etc).

We know that even in ~1300 BCE (when this campaign is likely to start) there was scale mail, leather, plated (not plate) etc armour. There were both archer chariots and more hand to handy chariots. We can even see the beginning of cavalry arrive in the middle of the campaign.

skirmishers, heavy infantry, all existed, and different kingdoms had different specialties.

The rub is getting enough variety in troop types for interest, and enough differentiation between nations for there to be personality and fun. It's not impossible, though

This actually sounds like a great idea. And yes, the Crusade Campaign Map will be great for it.
