my elephants..

so I had two vanilla elephants garrisoned in Antioch, and I find them with +3 weapon upgrades. I was quite happy of course, but I was curious as to how they got there. in the unit desc, the weapons are apparantly unable to be upgraded.
Antioch is currently a large city, with large temple to dionysys. armourer, stuff you usually find in a large city.
bug? probably, but Im curious because a random unit of miltia cav also got the +3 weps (although this was probably because of a temple or artemis that was in athens)

Maybe the weapon bonus was for the archers on top of the elephants?

I rarely use them though, so I may be wrong.

Yeah, I've noticed this too. I think it might just be a glitch, like the glitch with the Gaul's temple of the Horse.

Although, I think the temple in question upgrades light weapons, so maybe the lower level elephants count as light weapons?

I've noticed this too, but I've never seen any difference in battle. I don't know if the stats improve or not (try it!).

actually, I think they improved, but Im not 100% certain. I charged one of my superphants at a roman legion and they routed on impact. I saw a lot more flying romans when I charged then normal too. another time, I had left a unit of them idle and about 2 principes and a general attack them and it routed them all O_O
