There are posters for this everywhere in the hall I live in. Posters of MLK, and signs telling us to "embrace diversity", and, straight out of South Park "do not tolerate intolerance." Some examples they provide, on how to "foster tolerance"
I cannot wrap my mind on this. Isn't college supposed to be a forum of ideas, no matter who it offends? But why does the school allow a fundamentalist preacher on campus, who regularly insults gays, irreligious people, and others? Yet I cannot go around and tell religious people that they are wrong, or I would get in trouble for "fostering intolerance."
- Ban taunting at sports games. (Yes, ban.)
- Join the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender association (Why the hell would I do that if I wasn't one of the above?)
- Be careful of what you say around children (this has noting to do with diversity or tolerance)
- Imagine what it is like for someone of, another race, nationality, religion, sexuality, food preference, etc, etc, etc.
