    Default Setting up RAID 0

Anyone here know if I can add another drive and setup RAID 0 on my computer without having to delete everything and reinstall Windows? Theorically it should be possible, I think.

And can I do it with my current in-use Seagate 320Gigs?

    Or must I format...?

I don’t think it is possible I’m afraid. You might be able to get away with it with Raid 1 but not with Raid 0. Remember if you’re going to use a stripped raid array you are doubling the chances of drive failure and loss of data.

Hmm. Can someone explain to me, or provide a link, on what RAID is?

This site has some nice graphics of how different levels of raid work.

So what does it do? It makes everything process faster because information is put onto different disks? I have RAID on my computer but I really have no idea what to do with it so I don't touch it. It came as an option to put on my computer so I thought I'd try it out and now I don't know what to do with it or even what it is!

What do you mean it came as an option? Do you mean that your computer has two hard drives in RAID 0 or 1, or do you mean you have the option of adding a second hard drive in RAID? Because I always thought that all (modern) computers have the ability to configure two hard drives in RAID...

BTW, if you have two hard drives, they don't have to be in a RAID configuration, they could just act as two independent drives, in case that was of any confusion...

Which is the one that allows you to read from multiple hd's at once to speed up load times for games? Is that raid 0 or 1? -Leon

RAID is the setting up of using more than one harddrive in a pc. The combinations differ depending on the number. Spartan_Phalanx's link shows the difference between the settings.

RAID 0 is the most used. It splits the data between the 2 harddrives. Of course, if one fails, you lose everything and the data on your second drive is useless. RAID 1 is used for backing up data.
