    Default EB 1.0: Teaser 1

    Greetings Europa Barbarorum fans.

We are so very close to a new public release of EB, that we can barely contain it behind closed doors. We are all very excited about bringing you the best, and we hope that this teaser, and the ones to follow, will give you that same sense of excitement.

Yes, it is true. Europa Barbarorum 1.0 is coming.

Thanks goes to Kampfkrebs for the great teaser trailer. To Atilius and The_Mark for their scripting work on the Allied Province Rulers, to BozosLiveHere for his work on traits for the same project, and to Teleklos Archelaoufor the well written paragraph below.

Teaser Trailer: The Horsemen Have Come
Kampfkrebs has been working diligently on a new line of videos for faction intros. We wanted to show off his talent as soon as possible. So here is the first of a number of teaser trailers he has made for us.

You can watch on Youtube, or you can download a high quality version from our ftp.

    Allied Province Rulers:
For all factions in the game, a type4 government is essentially that of an allied state who has ceded over a large degree of their own autonomy to you and your faction after a major defeat at your hands. They have felt like just another province in some respects, until now. Now, when you conquer a territory and build a type4 government there, an allied ruler or puppet ruler will be spawned and will enter the city. He will have a local bodyguard and will have no mobility - he is to remain inside the city. As this is an allied territory, placing your own characters in the city will be taken as a sign of further aggression by the local populace and there may be riots. It is up to you whether or not you will control the city at that point or put it on automanage and let it tend to its own affairs. Keeping local troops stationed there is advisable, and having the city, your "ally", supply your own army with troops for your campaigns would also be a logical result of the arrangement.

    ----

We hope you have enjoyed this teaser for the next release of Europa Barbarorum.
Please note that unless stated otherwise, ALL pictures, names, and descriptions shown in our previews are works in progress. We continue to improve on all parts of EB, and we will continue to do so long after our initial release.
Since some areas where these news items are posted cannot handle wide images, we appreciate your restraint from quoting full-size images.
As always, if you have questions or comments, the best place to post them is here, where the EB team is most active:

    Europa Barbarorum ORG forum

    Europa Barbarorum TWC forum

We give special thanks to PicOodle that provides us with a simple, foolproof, and free way to show you all these pictures.

    Have a great day!

    Sincerely,

    The Europa Barbarorum team.

I just want to make sure I did understand rightly:

If you conquer a city which can only develop type4 government (which means: far away from homeland), you can choose to either take control of that city by yourself (old style) OR you choose to use that "local puppet governor". He will bring more order to the city (probably the locals will still believe that the city is ruled by one of them) and he will be dependent on you like a satrap or protectorate.

You will get money from that city (tribute) and you can train local troops in that province. The disadvantage though is that you dont have total control of the city (=you cant decide which buildings are constructed etc.).
    -------------------------

Is it correct? So basically, whats the disadvantage of choosing a puppet governor? Isnt it better to always choose a governor like this for type4 settlements? Hope you can answer my questions.

Anyway, it really sounds like an awesome idea! Oh, and nice teaser too.

Not exactly. Any province can build a Type IV Government and any province can also build a Type III Government, only Type II and Type I Governments are restricted). When you build a Type IV Government, the script will spawn a general and move him into the settlement. This is your puppet ruler. In other words, you don't have a choice about getting a puppet ruler if you build a Type IV government.

For roleplaying purposes we suggest that you make the province governable by the AI only, and only allow yourself to choose what buildings or units can be made there when you have one of your own generals there (which will upset the local populace). Because of how the AI is with building things in general, I always keep the units unchecked so that the AI doesn't start building ones all the time, but I allow the AI to choose what buildings it wants to build (though I sometimes stop it from doing that sometimes, when money is low).

Really impressive work on the Type IV gov.!!!! Awesome, I am speachless!!!! By the way, is it possible to make them move just enough to get to the provinces border, if he passes he would be attributed a 90% movement penalty, this is asked since even ,local pupets needs sometime to defend their province from invaders

No, they don't move at all (unless they are under siege I believe, so that they can sally). If they need to defend their borders, they have to rely on captains or aid from a Family Member General.

OK, Another question, will they be considered family members, if so, will they havre children..., prevent us from getting new members because of family members limitations? When they die, if province is still a type IV, will script add a new ruler? sory for all those questions !!!!
It is a grand idea for a grand mod

No they are not considered as family members, and thus cannot get married or have children. They are not part of the family tree.

They will take many years to die (they start off quite young), but when they do we do not script another puppet ruler in. The death of a puppet ruler is a good time to start thinking about putting either a new guy in (by destroying and then rebuilding a Type IV government) or further incorporating the province into your empire by building a higher type of government (like a Type III).

As usual, an utterly marvellous idea. Now, is it possible for the client rulers to have local names (eg. when conquering a Germanic province the client ruler will have a Germanic name), or does the game engine require us to have a ruler with one of the names from our own faction's pool?

It has to come from the faction's pool, thats just how the game works, unfortunately. They also have to have a picture from the culture group of the controlling faction.
