Unspecified error when using --io.file_first. Help Needed!
Is it necessary to make a batch file or use the --io.file_first command to make modded files work? I have succesfully made changes to the campaign_script file without using this command, but when trying to create an Ai sight bonus mod, I just cant make it work. And when I use the --io.file_first command, I just get the error message" Medieval 2: Total War encountered an unspecified error and will now exit" on startup. So does anyone know what the problem is? I have deleted the geography files.

That didnt help either. It is only the files in the mods folder you meant right?
It is very strange, as I am able to run the real combat mod for the britanninia campaign, with the --io.file_first command. But I had to delete it as the changes I made in the campaign script didnt show when running this mod. So I really cant make any sense out of this. And should the changes in my campaign_script even work, when not using the --io.file_first line?

Re: Unspecified error when using --io.file_first. Help Needed!
what you will probably need to do is start again, this time create a new mod folder;
if running of M2 exe, backup the data directory in a .zip, unpack all .packs, rename the data directory to the mod name you want to use, unpack the backup .zip of the data directory, go into the newly created mod directory and delete all data/text files, geography_new.txt and .db, and .sd files in UI, install your desired downloaded mods or make changes to the files yourself. add the file first and mod folder command lines in the .cfg, the file first command line will work if you followed this correctly.
if using kingdoms exe, download the retrofit mod, install as directed, change the .cfg to use file first, install your other desired downloaded kingdoms mods or make changes to the files yourself.
this is how i do it and it has worked over 10 times now as i continuously change my set up and mess with the files.

If you want to use one of the four Kingdoms campaigns then follow the directions i used for M2 data folder.
If you need more info on this there are threads here & here to help you more.

Sorry but I didnt quite understand what you meant, so I have just copied the britannia data folder, into the retrofit mod folder. Shouldent this also work?

if running of Kingdoms exe (Brittania), backup the mods/Brittania/data directory in a .zip, unpack Brittania .pack, rename the mods/Brittania directory to the mod name you want to use, unpack the backup .zip of the data directory to restore the mods/Brittania/data, go into the newly created mod directory and delete all data/text files, geography_new.txt and .db, and .sd files in UI, install your desired downloaded mods or make changes to the files yourself. add the file_first and mod folder directory command lines in the .cfg
