Okay.
I never cared for them in the least.
Simple and fun escapist fantasy (even for adults), but not something that stands re-reading.
Also, absolutely brilliant for getting kids to read (my 6 year old is aready trying with them) and the story-tapes are fantastic for keeping them quiet in the car

I have read 3 first ones when i was younger. Now i dont care a much of them.
Brilliant, if abit cheesy, books.
This isnt a masterpiece and its probably not worth rereading, but the first time you read the Harry potter books, they are very entertaining.

In contrast to the efforts of tiny Israel to make contributions to the world so as to better mankind, one has to ask what have those who have strived to eliminate Israel from the face of the earth done other than to create hate and bloodshed.
When I read them I found them amusing, and fascinating, though they are not that well written.. I doubt I will reread them as there are far better books out there..

They are far better written than the majority of fantasy novels. The kind of trash that gets spewed out onto the market is unbelievable. Nor is there any kind of relationship between competence in writing and sales-figures.

Never read any of it. Slightly too old for it. I dined on The Hobbit and LOR as a pre-teen and teen. I saw a couple of the movies with young family though.
Reminds me of C.S.Lewis' Narnia series or Enid Blyton's "Magic Faraway Tree", the entire concept.
I'd rather suck flaming goat's balls in hell than read those books![]()
Loved them helped me in 7th grade when I was extremley depressed plus always found them funny.

I was 13 when the first one came out, read it and loved it.
So I just kept reading them. I think it's a shame when people think they have "grown out" of great literature and movies.

You hate the books? Why? They're brilliant judging by their purpose. You shouldn't expect them to remain classics like Tolkien's books; just modern fairy-tales. They're very good for that.
I expect them to be more like the princess and the goblin then Tolkien.

I started on the Harry Potter books aged 22. I have no patience for people who can't enjoy children's books because, they say, they are 'too old' for them. This is another way of saying they're pretentious and don't actually understand what makes a book of worthwhile quality in the first place. The kind of people who list War and Peace in their top 5 favourite books, though secretly they gave up in Chapter 4 because it was getting boring. Compared to a really top quality award-winning children's book the kind of pathetic prattle that fills the reading diet of the common prole is feeble beyond belief.

Let me counter with this:
14 year-old girls who squee when they hear the name of Rupert Grint figured out the plot to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Which, BTW, I didn't even get through, it was that bad.
