    Default The Crusades

Could someone tell where I can find The Crusades mod by Caius Britannicus?

    Thanks.

Its always fun when you create a mod that not even you can get beyond the first 20 turns because of difficulty.

Btw is there a fix for the bug that crashes the game after 3 or more battles?

A crash occuring after 2 or more battles is usually a problem with sprites. Though from what I know it is not a game killer. I think you can continue it if you restart the game. Not that it`s a joy to quit and restart the game after a few battles...

Because it had little publicity and it doesn`t have a sub-forum. If it would have had a sub-forum(someone would need to have asked for it) it would have been better known.

ACtually the mod from what I understand was very successful. Downloads from the RTR website (which was the main link EVERYWHERE) used up RTR's monthly bandwidth allowance in a single day. It had its own forum at the org and had arguably one of the most popular threads here at the TWC (in the TW section) with nearly 80,000 views and about 1000 replies. I'd say it lost alot of interest because caius abandoned it once the initial mod was released. The campaign was decent and ran inconsistently but the MP and the custom battles were top freaking notch. I had quite a few really great online battles. I think if caius had supported it beyond his initial release it would have done very well beyond november, december of last year. It also didn't help that M2 was released at the same time and basically offered everything caius intended to offer.

    And that forum still exists:

Sadly though it's not as active as it once was - apparently one of the most promising & finest mods ever is now almost forgotten...

Indeed Caius's Crusades mod was a breath of fresh air when it was released.

The units are out of this world, and are among the finest I've seen.

Too bad some talented individual wouldn't take it on and fulfill this mods potential.

Wasn't there a game breaking bug that someone uploaded a fix for at the RTR forums?

This was plenty populer... just everyone decent was using the RTR forums back then. Great mod btw... especially when you look at m2tw in many aspects (in particuler skins).

And no... M2tw was a disappointment compared to the crusades. Kick ass looking skins and models>Ugly skins and models (even if there are multiple a unit). Also... the great music and BRILLIANT BATTLES! This is the only mod I've played... where fast battles are like slow tactical battles only speeded up (or fast tactical battles). If you compare it to RTW or M2tw the battles are just superb.

Although yes.. this came out just before m2tw so a lot of hype was focused on that. It'd be great if a port was done though.

Rome Medieval Mod is planning to use as many of the Crusades units as possible, and is already using a good deal of them in the current Beta release, and the other team members have expressed interest in using more, because they really are VERY pretty units.

And don't forget that Caius is mainly a "unitmaker". Though the Crusades where one of the best I've played.

My point being, if his team was larger the mod may have fulfilled its potential.

After being unable to fix the ctds Caius pretty much abandoned the mod.

Do you mean the video memory problem?? I got it for my RTR campaigns as well. It seems unrelated to mod contents and impossible to fix. Or it could have been caused/worsened by the high-resolution textures in the Crusades...

    What video memory problem?
He was talking about the ctd`s in the campaign. Which could very well be generated by the lack of a code to stop the revolt ctd. Which is easy to implement actually, but until relatively recently few people realized what its cause were and how much a mod tended to suffer from it depended largely on the way they made their recruitment system.

There were several citiy revolts for the short while I played, but I had no ctd (a rebel army always spawned), so I don't know if that was the problem (but I don't know how exactly the revolt ctd works, so...); in fact I didn't get any ctd at all, and my computer is light years from being top-notch.
