    Default Lorica Segmentata

Someone from the Europa Barbarorum's forum told me I could learn to add things to units if I wanted to modify them. If someone could give me anything I need to edit the unit and show me how to do it, or even I'd be really grateful if someone did it for me, so as to add new things. In this case, in Europa Barbarorum, I want to add lorica segmentata to their imperial legionaires. Thanks guys and plz help.

What you will need to do is to replace the model EB uses with a model that uses Lorica Segmentata.

Do you have any model in mind from any other mod that you like? If yes you will need to dowload this mod.

In the next post I will show you how to swap models.

I chose for you the model from SPQR which is one of my favourites.

Download this mod and install on your desktop in a folder named SPQR...

    1.
    Open the X:\Rome - Total War\EB\Data\export_descr_unit.txt
    Find the entry:
;242 type roman infantry legionary cohort ii
Copy the whole entry and paste it underneath.
Now you have two same entries. Alter the first by adding an "a" in the first line: type roman infantry legionary cohort iia

    Open the C:\Documents and Settings\X\Desktop\spqr\Data\export_descr_unit.txt
    Find the entry:
    type roman legionary cohort ii
Copy the line:soldier roman_legionary_cohort_ii and replace with it the same line in your EB entry.
So now your EDU looks like this:

    ;242
type roman infantry legionary cohort iia
    dictionary roman_infantry_legionary_cohort_ii ; Cohortes Imperatoria
    category infantry
    class heavy
    voice_type General_1
    soldier roman_infantry_cohorsimperatoria, 50, 0, 1.15
    officer officer_roman_centurion
    officer officer_roman_standard
    attributes sea_faring, hide_forest, can_sap, hardy
    formation 1, 2, 2, 3, 6, square, testudo
    stat_health 1, 0
    stat_pri 4, 0, pilum, 35, 2, thrown, blade, piercing, spear, 15 ,1
    stat_pri_attr prec, thrown, ap
    stat_sec 12, 4, no, 0, 0, melee, simple, piercing, sword, 0 ,0.13
    stat_sec_attr no
    stat_pri_armour 12, 9, 4, metal
    stat_sec_armour 0, 0, flesh
    stat_heat 4
    stat_ground 0, 0, -2, -2
    stat_mental 15, disciplined, highly_trained
    stat_charge_dist 30
    stat_fire_delay 0
    stat_food 60, 300
    stat_cost 0, 2244, 561, 100, 160, 2244
    ownership seleucid, slave

    ;242
type roman infantry legionary cohort ii
dictionary roman infantry legionary cohort ii ; Cohortes Imperatoria
    category infantry
    class heavy
    voice_type General_1
    soldier roman_legionary_cohort_ii, 50, 0, 1.15
    officer officer_roman_centurion
    officer officer_roman_standard
    attributes sea_faring, hide_forest, can_sap, hardy
    formation 1, 2, 2, 3, 6, square, testudo
    stat_health 1, 0
    stat_pri 4, 0, pilum, 35, 2, thrown, blade, piercing, spear, 15 ,1
    stat_pri_attr prec, thrown, ap
    stat_sec 12, 4, no, 0, 0, melee, simple, piercing, sword, 0 ,0.13
    stat_sec_attr no
    stat_pri_armour 12, 9, 4, metal
    stat_sec_armour 0, 0, flesh
    stat_heat 4
    stat_ground 0, 0, -2, -2
    stat_mental 15, disciplined, highly_trained
    stat_charge_dist 30
    stat_fire_delay 0
    stat_food 60, 300
    stat_cost 0, 2244, 561, 100, 160, 2244
    ownership seleucid, slave
The first entry will not be used since with the added "a" th game does not recognise the unit.

Now we need to edit in the model in the descr_model_battle.txt

    Open the X:\Rome - Total War\EB\Data\descr_model_battle.txt
    Find the type roman_infantry_cohorsimperatoria
Copy and paste it underneath, replace the lines like this:

    type roman_legionary_cohort_ii
    skeleton fs_pilum, fs_gladius ; throwing javelin
    indiv_range 40
    texture seleucid, eb/data/models_unit/textures/SPQR_INFANTRY_JULII_LEGIONARY_LATE.TGA
    texture slave, eb/data/models_unit/textures/SPQR_INFANTRY_JULII_LEGIONARY_LATE.TGA
    model_flexi_m eb/data/models_unit/Legionary_ii__high.cas, 15
    model_flexi_m eb/data/models_unit/Legionary_ii__med.cas, 30
    model_flexi_m eb/data/models_unit/Legionary_ii__low.cas, 40
    model_flexi_M eb/data/models_unit/Legionary_ii__lowest.cas, max
    model_sprite seleucid, 60.0, eb/data/sprites/roman/romans_julii_roman_legionary_cohort_ii_sprite1.spr
    model_sprite slave, 60.0, eb/data/sprites/roman/romans_julii_roman_legionary_cohort_ii_sprite1.spr
    model_tri 400, 0.5f, 0.5f, 0.5f
Now that you told the game what to look for, you have to put it there:

    Textures
Copy and paste the textures from
    C:\Documents and Settings\X\Desktop\spqr\Data\models_unit\textures
    to
    X:\Rome - Total War\EB\Data\models_unit\TEXTURES
    Models
    models from
    C:\Documents and Settings\X\Desktop\spqr\Data\models_unit
    to
    X:\Rome - Total War\EB\Data\models_unit
    Sprites
    from
    C:\Documents and Settings\X\Desktop\spqr\Data\sprites
    to
    X:\Rome - Total War\EB\Data\sprites\roman

If you paste the right files, your job is done.

Now, if you want to have the unit icons in the campaign map you need to copy some more files from SPQR.
If you are interested, I will tell you tomorrow...

If you understand the process you can use whatever model you want.

What you want is to replace model B with model A.

1.Go to the export_descr_units of the mod that contains A and find the line that refers to the model used in descr_model_battle; the line is always:

soldier whatever name, number, number, number
2.Find this line in the descr_model_battle. The entry will show you which files are used for the model. You will need those files:

    type roman_legionary_cohort_ii
    skeleton fs_pilum, fs_gladius ; throwing javelin
    indiv_range 40
    texture seleucid, eb/data/models_unit/textures/whatever.TGA
    texture slave, eb/data/models_unit/textures/whatever.TGA
    model_flexi_m eb/data/models_unit/whateverhigh.cas, 15
    model_flexi_m eb/data/models_unit/whatever_med.cas, 30
    model_flexi_m eb/data/models_unit/whatever__low.cas, 40
    model_flexi_M eb/data/models_unit/whatever__lowest.cas, max
    model_sprite seleucid, 60.0, eb/data/sprites/roman/whatever.spr
    model_sprite slave, 60.0, eb/data/sprites/roman/whatever.spr
    model_tri 400, 0.5f, 0.5f, 0.5f
3.Now open the mod containing model B.
    4.Open the export_descr_unit and find B
5.Copy the whole entry for B and paste it underneath.
6.Rename the first line of the original entry by adding a letter or a number. (By removing it and deleting the "new" entry you can revert to the old model)
You have created a new entry
7.Replace the soldier line with the soldier line
8.Open the descr_model_battle find the soldier line of the old entry
9.Change the file names to the file names of the new model (which you have already found in the descr_model_battle)
10.Find all the actual files of the mod you want the model from and paste those in the appropriate folders of the mod you play.
    --------------------------------------------------------

    Now for the unit cards:

In order to avoid renaming entries you will simply rename the Unit cards.
Those can be found in all mods in the following directories:
    X:\Rome - Total War\EB\Data\UI\UNIT_INFO
    X:\Rome - Total War\EB\Data\UI\UNITS

So, first you will need to rename the old cards (by adding a letter or number so you can revert to those) and then replace those with the new cards (which ofcourse you have renamed with the original name of the old one)

So the old "EBLegionary_INFO.tga" will become "1EBLegionary_INFO.tga"
and the new will change from RomaSurrectumLegi_INFO.tga to EBLegionary_INFO.tga

Do that for the two cards in both directories and you are set.

What files are needed and what are the appropriate folders? if we know nothing about modding, how are we suppose to know which files and what the "appropriate folders" are? Sorry... lol been trying for hours to simply extract an existing archer skin from the Extended Greek Mod(Greek Athenian Marine Archer) and insert it inot my current mod SPQR(Greek Archers).

    That's easy.

There are two folders where you need to replace Icons. I don't have the game in this computer but I will try not to confuse you too much...

    UI/Unit Icons
    and
    UI/Units

In each folder you have to find the legionnary file (one .nfo and one .tga file) in the folders of the right cultures. I think that in EB Romans=Seleucids.
Now, rename the files by adding a number to the original name (so you can revert back if you wish).

Now, rename the new (SPQR) files (that you will find in the similar location in SPQR) to the original EB names (exactly) and put those in the appropriate EB folders.

    Done!

I did just as you said above... but still not work... do you think it could have something to do with the fact that the UI/Unit_Info and UI/Units folders are in the data/pak folder instead of the data/UI folder... which has nothing in it??

I think both EB and SPQR have unpacked the icons into the UI. Actually, I'm sure about it. The UI is empty or non-existent only in vanilla...I think...

    1) Download xpak.zip (http://www.twcenter.net/forums/downl...do=file&id=820)
    2) Open xpak.zip with winzip
    3) Open explorer
    4) Goto the harddrive you installed RTW to (c:\ or d:\)
    5) Goto Program Files
    6) Goto Activision
    7) Goto Rome - Total War
    8) Goto data
    9) Goto packs
    10) Select from the winzip window: xpax.exe and xpak.bat
    11) Drag those files to the Rome -Total War\data\packs folder you have open in explorer
    12) Double click xpak.bat
    13) Wait for it do it's stuff
    14) Done.

But still I don't understand why your UI is empty...
    :hmmm:

Go to the mods folder ie; RTRPE, SPQR.

    The unit models; Data/models_unit
    The unit textures; Data/models_unit/textures

Some mods (RTR) for example might have an extra folder, so Data/RTR/models_unit .. ect
