Icon5 "An earlier version of Rome - Total War has been detected...."

    Here it goes:
I just recently uninstalled RTW and the Invasio Barbarorum mod. First I uninstalled it from the control panel and then, just to be sure, I deleted the game folder.
When I started to reinstall RTW, a message pops up: An earlier version of..... blaah blaah, you know the thing. So I do the following. I search the whole computer and don't find trace of any RTW installation or file. Then I try to install the game again but in vain cuz the same message comes up.
At this point I'm getting really desperate so I hurry up to these boards and start looking for an answer. I find a lot of stuff about this problem and about using some REGEDIT thingy (?). Because of my incompetence with computers I can't understand this whole thing and thus I can't fix it
A bit of help would be greatly appreciated because there are so many wonderful mods to play and I don't want to stop it here.

Thank you so much ! Now it works. I would rep you if I could.
I still would like to know one thing. When or if I reinstall the game again, do I have to go through the same deleting again?

Though this thread was made more than a year ago,

There are two keys i found. theyre default keys in the Sega and creative assembly folder. The data: value not set. do i delete this? It prompts that it may lead to system instability.

And, Could anyone please give me the link to this long lost thread that talks about the complete deletion of RTW in the Guild?, If you have it that its... once again tks for your help.

There's also another way to 'fix' this, I use ' because it's not actually fix, but it will solve ur problem if not being able to play. If u happen to be someone with a gaming pc and a laptop (like me) u can install the game on the other pc that doesn't have the problem yet, then put it on USB, external hard drive, network, ... and copy it to ur gaming pc, should work, I just did it.

And before the comments start going: I know this isn't a good way but I tried everything and it still didn't work so this is my way of saying: in ur face stupid installer -_-

Threadomancy, I realise, but it's driving me insane....
I've used a few different Reg cleaning programs (CCCleaner, regcleaner, regwiper etc) and have manually gone through RegEdit deleting anything and everything pertaining to Rome, BI, 1.6 etc but still get that damn blasted 'Earlier Version message'.

    Any other help available, please?
