    Default Crash when starting Campaign

    I've hit a wall.

    Everything worked okay and then I made further changes to the EDU and the modelsdb file.

    Now the game crashes to desktop after I select my faction and start the campaign.

    I have in the cfg file to show * error only in the log however there are no errors.

    If I put * trace in the cfg then the log file is 13mb and has thousands of lines.

    Is there some kind of general rule like:

    CTD's when starting the game are desc strat
    CTD's when loading a campaign are possibly modelsdb, campaign script etc

    Any idea's of where I can start looking? I've used the modelsdb checker and no errors are reported from that so..EDU? but what do I look at if the log isn't pointing me at anything in that?

    The only thing is I haven't touched export_descr_character_traits.txt and that part is as follows:

    The line and column mentioned in the error is the end of the one in Bold.

    I have a sneaking suspicion this is something to do with a character of mine from some other file...but I'm just guessing.

    Anyone?

    That particular error won't crash the game. It's part of Blood, Broads and Bastards.

    What changes did you make when you edited the EDU and modeldb?

    And if you suspect it's related to a character, did you double-check the names files?

    I've checked the names file and all my named characters in desc_strat are in the names file and expanded.txt.

    I tell you...modding is so rewarding when it goes right but so frustrating when it goes wrong!

    Funny you should ask that: I've noticed with Ireland that no matter what I do I can't get the Factionheir to appear.

    The king and his wife do but no heir. Before I made the changes to the EDU and modelsdb I could start the game with the setup I had even though the heir wasn't there!

    Other than desc_strat the only place i've seen family tree mentioned is in descr_sm_factions and it's a yes in there for Has family tree.

    Once I have time I'll try to work through the files again, there's obviously something I'm missing.

    I'm using the PDERKingdoms battle model file which i believe is formatted..though my entries are not.

    Does this make a difference?

    I ask because I thought it might be the models file so what I did was install PDER fresh and only replace the models file with my version. The game started succesfully with no errors or crashes so I assume my file is okay.

    I can't believe how stupid I've been, it turned out to be the family tree after all!

    I had copied over the CNP Irish names to descr_names and the spelling had changed slightly. So while the heirs name was in names.txt it wasn't in descr_names.

    Also I didn't really understand the family tree layout in descr_strat which I do now...

    relative faction leader, wife, son1, daughter, end
    relative Son1, sonsWife, sonsSon, sonsDaughter, end

    Characters included in the relative list who are female and/or dead should be included in the character list that comes above the relative section. For example if the only two generals were to be FactionLeader and Son1 then all others should be listed in the character list with appropriate details (dead, age etc).

    Now back to the AoR!
