    Default General upgrade as dunland?

    In all my rtw campaigns both vanilla and modded all my generals were upgraded at the same time but this time playing as Dunland I have both horse generals and foot generals.
    What exactly causes generals to upgrade? I had a city with two foot generals inside, I recruited a horse general and my two generals became horse generals. Each time I try that now I get a new horse general but any foot generals in the city remain on foot. I had several ideas about what was going on, but they all got thrown out of the window as the campaign and events progressed.

    Anyone care to shed some light on this for me?
    Thanks.

    Well, it's very simple actually. In vanilla RTW the armoured unit was coded as an upgrade to the early general. In FATW they are two completely different units, just as White Company and Knights of Dol Amroth are. They are both recruitable generals, but they have nothing to do with each other. So there is no way you can go from the foot version to the mounted version. btw the mounted version is only recruitable in Dunfreca.

    How did you do that?! Are you absolutely sure that they were not already mounted??

    In vanilla RTW, I (and other factions) received upgraded general upgrade as soon as Romans reached marius reforms, never before, never after. If romans were wiped out before they reached marius reforms, no general upgrades this campaign.
    I can recruit mounted generals from three cities ATM. From Helm's Deep ( I conquered Rohan), I forget the names of the other cities though but I believe one of them is Dunfreca, if that is the one located next to a river and a Gondorian city starts near it. The other one is just south of the initial capital. These are the only cities that have the highest stables right now.

    95% sure.
    It was my first mounted general I recruited.Also I just remembered now not only did the two generals in the city get upgraded but one or two generals in other regions of hte empire were upgraded also. I thought, cool I just had to recruit one mounted general now all my generals are mounted, until I looked at other generals and saw they were still on foot.

    I've never heard of this upgrading effect you describe before... I'll have to check that out. And I know how RTW works.

    You can actually recruit the mounted Guardsmen wherever there are horses as a trading resource. I mentioned only Dunfreca coz it's the only starting province that can.

    I only mentioned the bit about vanilla RTW because I remember reading on some other forums about people debating how general upgrades work. Some said it was when marius happened, some said as soon as you get your best government building. Others said once you had your best government building only new generals would be upgraded.

    I could upload my save game if you want, althought I'm not sure how much good that would do.

    Edit- While taking a a shower, I remember a similar situation in another campaign. I was playing Greece in the XGM mod. All factions had their upgraded generals but mine were still regular generals. New generals I recruited were armored generals, but they were just generals, not family members. In my other campaigns in XGM (not as Greece) my generals were upgraded along with everyone else's.

    Friends,that is BI mod and in BI generals are uppgraded when any of your cities achieved it final governor-building uppgrade
    At least that was that I've thought till this topic
    Fitz Salnarville, Duke William's favourite knyghte,
    To noble Edelwarde his life dyd yielde;
    Withe hys tylte launce hee stroke with thilk a myghte,
    The Norman's bowels steemde upon the feeld.
    Old Salnarville beheld hys son lie ded, 235
    Against Erie Edelward his bowe-strynge drewe;
    But Harold at one blowe made tweine his head;
    He dy'd before the poignant arrowe flew.
    So was the hope of all the issue gone,
    And in one battle fell the sire and son

    That's something new (for me at least)... Are you sure you're not confusing our situation with the vanilla general-upgrade effect? We haven't included it in FATW anyway... In case you're not confusing the two of them: The units are upgraded to what? Those two units are completely different, separate EDU entries, and the engine has no way to know that one is the mounted version of the other. How does it chose which unit to upgrade to which? And finally, any links to threads that discuss this effect?
