Brittania - Problems playing Norway !!!

Hello all!

I've started a brittania campaign with norway - following mission assignment, I took a few island but the scots came back, impossible to make money...I lost all the cities I took from the scots, and my king's purse gets me in the red every turn I actually reached -12000 ( I had to dismound more than 80% off all my force to get my head out of the water...), thescots arte at my thoat and I can do nothing. What is the best strategy with norway and how should I start.

What I did was to capture the rebel island settlements and convert them to cities. Then I waited for king Haakon's fleet to arrive, and used it to attack the Scottish capital Perth (moneymaker). After that you should be just fine

Those darn Scots attacked me on the 2nd tern!

When the King whats him name arrived, I just used the ol Viking seaborn invasion routine - as the Scots were stacking army after army to sack my poor little Northern territories and depriving me of cash - I hit them at Perth and a small city near there and took them with out much of a fight and then moved north to pinch them.

William Wallace brought some awesome troops and but I luckily managed to kill him in a losing battle.

I say if you go to war with Scots, take cities or they will spam you out of extistence.

i know where your coming from, on my campaign i at one point was in the hole 20,000. after they cut off your kings purse you start felling the pressure. my problem was that i had expanded to fast with out building up my infrastructure with proper income producing buildings. to solve the problem i, converted back castles to settlements, sent all but the minimum forces to the front line, took as many settlements as i could with the army that i had. once the army had been depleted and i had sacked a major city or two, i was able to build up the infrastructure and make money, now im +20,000. gl!

yea they are a hard start. although its one of the only factions in the game that starts out at peace it dosnt take long for Scotland to attack. the early kings purse is like 7000 a turn though. thats when i started aggressively taking over cities. i wiped out scotland and ireland but ran out of time

I abandoned Arran and let it rebel because Scotland always want to capture it. I used the reinforcements to capture the rebel held islands and used the garrison of Castle Town to capture Dublin (rebel) and Trim. After that I used whatever units I had to conquer Ireland (including the King). This will give you an excellent economic base. Once I had my economics in order it was time to attack Scotland. Scotland is now destroyed and I am slowley capturing England. The Barron's have just one region and Wales has three. I am making a profit of 30,000 per turn because I can't train enough elite units due to lack of castles. The English armies are very strong as their armies exist mostly out of dismounted English knights. I need dismounted chivalric knights and Gotland Footmen (awesome unit) to fight the DEKs. I win battles but with heavier losses than I am used to. I have 110 turns left to destroy England which will be more than enough.

Well with most factions I start like this: In all the cities/castles I don't make any military buildings. Only the economic ones (markets, land clerances, ports, ...). At first income is poor but when you build most of them you're pretty good in the greens. When profit is high enough I start to build the military buildings. Oh and all the castles I conquer, I usually turn them into setlements for the income, unless they are close to the front line and can be used as a recruitement center. As for the missions you usually have 15 turns to take a town. That's quite long and usually I can just starve them out. For the attacks I use the starting army and I don't recrute as long as I build the economic buildings or go to war with a strong faction.

i've the same problem, one turn i had 18000 and growing on next king purse,taxes decrease and i'm on negative O_o....

but why scots are so obcessed with arran ??

In my previous post I thought that I had 114 turns to destroy England. Actually I won the campaign in turn 148. I conquered the entire map playing on H/VH.

Although the Scots are keen on attacking Arran I find it quite easy with the town's starting garrison to hold off the attackers, while I assemble armies at Wick and in Ireland to take on both the Irish and the Scots.

I let Arran rebel. The rebel army was stronger than the Scottish invasion force. The Scottish army stood there until the Scots were destroyed some 100 turns later. It must have been a very loyal captain.

I've started over a new game and radically change rmy strategy. I left Arran, Scots got it. turned all my castles into town, except for my capital, Took Dublin and Trim and conquered all of Ireland, that prove to be a formidable base. Turned to Wales, tool all their castles and towns, except for one, then made peace with them...I'm moving on to take the english...

yeah the key i find is to take dublin when it rebels from england using your CastleTown force and any other towns that rebel from england.

if you can do that and get your economic infrastructure in place before the purse is cut off you should be fine with money.
