Default Recruiting one person for Play By Email Campaign

At the moment, Paul D and I are playing a Play By Email campaign. Originally, we had a third player as Macedon, but he has since quit. So, we decided to recruit a new person. We are nine turns in so far. The factions you can play as are:

    Parthia
    Britannia
    Egypt
    Dacia
    Gaul

The rest of the factions are too imbalanced to play as. You must be able to play your turn 24 hours after you got the file (at latest), and you must play out most of your battles. It is also STRONGLY suggested that you join us in creating the AAR, but not mandatory. If you would like to play, post here.

Also, in Western US Time, on weekdays:

    I'm usually on from 1pm-6pm
Paul D is usually on from 3:30pm-8:30pm

Being on around that time would be convenient, but not mandatory. It's all good as long as you can play at least one turn a day.

No one? I thought more people would want to play. Ok, I'll post this on other sites, too. You can still sign up here, though.

hey, i will add in my 2 cents.

    factions' military condition:

britannia: they have some medium armies in britannia, and a large army next to germania

parthia; they took arabia and have medium sized scattered armies (being near me, Pontus, would be advantageous for both; we ccould do a pincir on armenia)

germania; took 2 regions. they have medium sized armies, but a dacian invasion is coming

macedon; took athens, a full stack near Thessalonika, some medium sized armies in greece. corinth under seige

what is a Play By Email Campaign?
"So there I am, in Sri Lanka, formerly Ceylon, at about 3 o'clock in the morning, looking for one thousand brown M&Ms to fill a brandy glass, or Ozzy wouldn't go on stage that night. So, Jeff Beck pops his head 'round the door, and mentions there's a little sweets shop on the edge of town. So - we go. And - it's closed. So there's me, and Keith Moon, and David Crosby, breaking into that little sweets shop, eh. Well, instead of a guard dog, they've got this bloody great big Bengal tiger. I managed to take out the tiger with a can of mace, but the shopowner and his son... that's a different story altogether. I had to beat them to death with their own shoes. Nasty business, really. But, sure enough, I got the M&Ms, and Ozzy went on stage and did a great show."

bradqwer, we may let you play, but you need version 1.5. If you can't get it, that means that either you already have it, or you're doing something wrong.

Ephialtes, it's a small mod that allows you to play a multiplayer campaign as different factions by emailing the save file back and forth. Go here for more info:

gargarensi, do you have MSN messenger? Also, what faction do you want to be? Would you make an AAR for it?

And don't worry about it, ccllnply. But I don't think you'll be able to join this one, I think we only want three people.

You don't need MSN, it just makes communication easier. As long as your Rome 1.5 is working, you're fine. Do you understand how to install the mod? If not, I can explain it to you.

And, as I said earlier: Which factions do you want to be? Here's the list of the factions you can be:

    1. Egypt. They've taken a couple cities, and have a pretty powerful army. This would probably be the easiest, but your expansion may be difficult due to both me and Paul D expanding towards you.
    2. Parthia. Taken a few cities, decent army. But again, expansion would be difficult.
    3. Gauls. They've become pretty powerful, and have taken some of the cities in France. They've held their cities in Northern Italy, and I believe are at war with the Julii. At the moment, their war is at a stand still, with no side taking clear advantage. Realize, however, that I am expanding into Spain and Italy, so expansion in the South my be difficult.
    4. Britons. They have taken no cities, and their armies are relatively weak. Their neighbors, the Gauls and Germans, have both become quite strong. This will be a more difficult faction to play as, but it will leave you plenty of room to expand and become powerful.
    5. Dacia. They still only have two cities, and next to no troops. This will be the greatest challenge. The Germans and Thracians, their neighbors, are both more powerful than them. You would have plenty of room to expand west, and some room to expand east. However, realize that both Paul D and I are planning a joint-attack on Macedon and Greece at a later time.

Those are your choices. Choose well.

Also, you would need to have access of the computer for a little bit almost daily. However, since it's one turn at a time, you won't need more than fifteen minutes most turns.

And lastly, would you be interested in writing an AAR? You can take a look at the "Rise of Empires" thread in the AAR forum, that is our thread. Paul D and I are both writing from our points of view.

    We hope you can join.

Basically, after installing the mod, we go in turn order. The turn order is decided by the factions. Now, when it's your turn, the previous player will email you the save game. You will then load up RTW, and load the game. Your turn will begin. Simply activate the script (which I'll go into more detail later), and player your turn as you normally would. However, realize that you cannot control your faction when it is not your turn. This includes battles and diplomacy. However, it's easy to get around. Simply keep your important characters and armies inside forts or cities, so that if they are attacked, you can sally forth when it's your turn. When your turn is finished, simply click "End Turn". When it arrives at the next player's turn, it will say "Save Succesful". You then exit out of the game, and find "quicksave.sav" in "Rome - Total War/saves", and rename it to something like "Turn25Pontus.sav" and then email it to the next player.

It may sound confusing, but you get the hang of it after the first couple times, and it becomes natural. So, which factions are you considering?

Well, we're hoping to continue the campaign in a couple days. Have you played as all of the factions before? What are your favorite units, strategies, battle tactics, etc?
