    Default Some questions...

Hello comrades I'm new here and I have a few questions to Rome:Total War:
    1. How is it possible to make factions like Dacia or the Celts(BI) playable?
    2. Why big cities are always loosing money and how I can stop that?
    3. Has anybody found a solution to lead the Western Roman Empire to a victory? I read one strategy guide here but I wasn't able to manage it....

Would be nice if somebody would answer my questions...

    1. Look on gamefaqs. There is a clear guide to how to do that.
    2. Build economic buildings above military buildings. Like Leo said, your big cities will almost always be in the negative.
    3. Severous has a great AAR winning with the WRE on another forum,

He's made a lot of AAR's, they are really good.

    Okay thanks for your help...
I have already thought that bigger cities "loose" money because they have to pay more but I wasn't sure...

To make factions playable, go to:
    My Computer
    Program Files
Activision/Creative Assembly (varies between gold and normal)
Rome - Total War (or BI)
    Data
    World
    Maps
    Campaign
    Imperial_Campaign
    Descr_strat
From here, simply cut and paste the factions you want into the desired areas, keeping the same format.
Make sure to back up first

    Pansen,

Agreed with Leonidas and Selifator on Item 2. The income number next to any given city is virtually meaningless unless you know every detail about every city. See this post for an explanation of why.

Yeah the more inhabitants a city has the more of your total army upkeep it has to pay. So you're largest cities are responsible for paying your whole armies upkeep. So that means some cities will not earn much but your smaller cities do keep earning money.

    ARMY:
For your armies I recommend a Missile Tactic, using a first line of 6-7 Plumbatarii, a second line of archers and Onagers, 2-3 units of Auxilia Palatina to help against the enemy cavalry and 2-3 units of Sarmatian Cavalry+General on the rear.

I deploy one unit of archers on each flank supported by one unit of Auxilia Palatina:
1- The archers will have a easier job because they will not need to shoot above the Plumbatariis head
2- They will be ready to welcome the horse archers, because they usually try to flank my armies, shooting from there
3- Your archers will attract enemy cavalry units, so your Auxilia Palatina can take them out (maintain your Auxilia Palatina near your archers positioned on the flanks), you can use the your cavalry to help them.

My archers + Onagers will help against horse archers and other ranged units, my Plumbatarii will usually crush the enemy melee infantry at the first contact (if they reach so far). If my Cavalry outnumber or it's better than the enemy cavalry I try to take the enemy cavalry down and after I aim for the enemy archers, this means flanking the enemy army (this is a good tactic against the Easter Roman Empire, they deploy better archers, but generally deploy worse and less cavalry than my own), otherwise I use my cavalry for support purposes, they help other units in combat, mainly units in difficult situations, and I use them to kill routing units.

    STRATEGY:
First you must reorganize your army get rid of all the Foedetary, they cost to much for what they do. I usually replace the limitanei for peasants, I recommend you to do the same, at least in the first turns, to reduce costs and consolidate the economy. After that, if you want, you can train limitanei and disband your peasants in the minor cites to make them grow faster.
After the army reorganization, destroy the majority of the military builds in your territory. This is essential in Iberia and North Africa, these towns are near rebellion, maintain a training center(a city with military buildings) in Britain, other in the frontier with the Germans, and two in Italy (Rome+the city north of Rome), maintain these cities happy, if these cities rebel you will have troubles, if Rome rebels you will be doomed, don't let that happen.
If one province without military buildings rebels, the rebels will be only peasants, send one of your armies and it will be easy to retake the city. If a city with training facilities rebels you will have to fight with the units that these buildings can train, because the rebels composition depends of buildings present in the settlement.
Of course that you will have some extra money for destroying training (military) buildings.

In the first turns don't change the religion of any settlement, first I improve the happiness, constructing amphitheaters, academies, enabling games (at amphitheaters), enlarging the garrisons of the cities, placing the best governors in the cities with lower happiness (be careful with religion => governor religion must be the same of the city).

To change the religion of a city I recommend to first destroy the old religious buildings (if they exist), next if needed stabilize (improve happiness) the city and them move in a good governor with the religion that you want to impose, a few turns after you can start building the new religious buildings. When I start with the construction of the religious buildings the cities became less happy than when I start by moving a governor, I think that the change is lighter with the governor than with the religious buildings, this means that the transition will take some time but will be smoth.

If you want to change your Empire religion to paganism, you must choose a new heir, he must be pagan, and kill your faction leader. Try to maintain your empire under one religion, if a province religion differs from the faction leader religion you will have unrest.

In one save (Campaign: very hard; Battles: hard) I abandoned the majority of the Empire, just maintaining Italy and the Mediterranean Islands, and it was a easy campaign. I just love Plumbatarii and Samartian Cavalry, these are my wining units with the Western Empire.

    Hope this helps.

    PS: Sorry for bad English.

Oh thanks, for your helpful answers. Especially the last one was very informative. I will try the western roman campaign again after I have finished the long Carthagae campaign(five provinces are still missing).
Ps: Your english isn't bad and by the way english is also not my mother-tongue...
