    Default Figthing Mongols & Timurids

    Hello,
    I usually play as the turks (with LTC mod), and it's inevitable that I have to deal with the mongols, and then, usually around the same time all my cities get blasted with plague, the Timurids.

    Does anyone have suggestions or tips for fighting these guys besides just throwing troops at them? They just seem so fast and have so many arrows it's like impossible to deal with.

    Well i tend to play as the catholic nations what i Do is change settlements to castles and get multiple walls and abandon the outer walls and defend the inner ones heavy infantry and mass armenia archer mercs seems to work fairely well for me.

    As for meeting them in the field I have one plan.... run

    These Mongol Fu##ers are tough.

    They don't ever rout. And if they do, they come back to fight if you don't chase them down. And their archers are as tough as regular infantry.

    Going to answer my own question is as from trial and error I think I found a pretty good solution.

    My little town was being attacked by 800 mongols. They had 2 rocket launchers, 2 ballistas, some ladders and 2 rams built.

    My garrison was around 600. Mainly turk infrantry, four archers, two naffutin, and two ottaman infantry.

    After several replays it seems that they won't enter the city until they blow several holes in the wall and use all the ammo for their siege weapons up...

    So, i had my guys behind the walls in a safe enough place to not get creamed by the bombing, but close enough that they could fill the holes when the mongols rushed (and they rush fast!)...

    When the bombing was done I placed an infantry unit (or two) in each break in the wall. Two of my units could do that shiltrom move so I plugged the breaks with that formation. The rest were normal infantry line.

    The mongols attacking the left- most break eventually broke and bailed leaving me free to send my archers and the infrantry guarding that break out into the open field.

    I then looped around the mongols flank and started firing on them from the side and then eventually behind.

    With archers behind them the mongols almost immediately broke and ran.

    My city garrison was pretty beat up but it survied. The two units in shiltrom were hardly hurt though... I was able to reinforce the town with a full stack on the next turn and brokered peace with the Mongols.

    I do think, just as they do when trying to enter a single gate, they must have been shooting into the backs of their own troops as I know my four archers did not cause that much damage as was reported at the end of the battle. Thank god for friendly fire!

    Crusader armies ususally fair pretty good against them, but ur Muslim.. As soon as i get the message that their coming i spawn load of assassins, train them on rebel captains, but besides that, home for lots of expensive cannons and spearmen..
