Will one country ever rule the world?

I've always thought about this. all great empires had their moments, ambitions to rule the world, but they never did. ok...ok... Alexander ruled the "known" world, but i mean, all that we know today on good ol' planet earth. Can any one country even govern something as big as the Earth? any thoughts?

I'm afraid so. The United Nations has a high chance of that, bribing leaders, and using propaganda to achieve this. They may claim world peace, but eventually, they will be corrupt, that is, if they do annex the world like this. It's not that far off from happening, something like this can happen within perhaps a hundred years or so.

One country can rule the world but it would require the elimination of radicalism and patriotism. Or, failing that, a mass brainwashing machine or an oppressive police state.

One country will never rule the world, This is mainly due to Religion and Patriotism, altho military might can obviously overwhelm many countires and there beliefs there will never be enough soliders from a single country to force a single governments will on the entire planet. Although there are many gains in conquering all world, the fact is whats after that? No war? No trade?

Regarding the comment on the UN, i believe that they may govern the world some day but they however are not a country the are the makings up of a other countries governements.

Controlling the world, possible? No. The more our technology advances the easier it will be for nations to destroy each other, and as a result themselves. The only conflicts in the future that wont result in the entire annihilation of both enemies are low scale, unimportant wars. The World is far too Nationalistic and violent to ever allow itself to fall drastically behind one power and thus be defeated. Hell, even if this were to happen, even imagining the revolts and gorilla warfare that would ensue is, well, mind boggling.

That's entirely implausible. The United Nations is hardly united or hell, even effective. They aren't imperialistic in their designs either.

One country will never truely rule the world we are too divided for that to happen the only way I could see it ever happining is if aliens turn up then we would all unite as humans.

I'd just go bush. Find a hidden valley. And have my own country. I would make fortnightly raids in to enemy One Country territory for supplies and women, and any interlopers onto my land would quite amazingly disappear.

Who wants the world to have One Government anyway? As much as international differences may suck some times, it is a hell of a lot better than having everybody on earth under the thumb of the few.

What he meant is that the world wont be called "THE U.S of A" of "India" or "China" ... it'll not be a conquest by one single nation or a group of them. But a decision by all to form one big government.


By the way the question is not whether we'll ever have ONE nation rule ... but do we want it ?

I think it is rational to think that in one way or the other one day everyone on this earth will have either Chinese or Indian blood.
