Thread: Gunpowder units dont shoot

    Hi

    My gunpowder units are still bugged and bump into eachother with hardly any shots going off.

    All the kingdom files are in packs (german kingdom version), so how can I change them not to change ranks all the time. It's destroying my game atm.

    Any help is welcomed

    mods\packs\data.pack is supposedly where the files are in. the data folder itself contains animations sounds fmv and world only

    Yeah I've noticed the same thing, mostly in my thunder braves and hand gunners. They just kind of stand there and tell me they're shooting...

    So then i get mad and put them in front of cavalry

    I've noticed that happening in vanilla sometimes, but not in Kingdoms. Thunder Braves, Teutonic Handgunners and Irish Calivermen all working OK for me.

    They're slow, get them in a clear shot to the enemy, spread them out and keep telling them to fire until they actually do. But they will always change ranks, as the first line fires, the second line moves forward then fires, rinse repeat. Just spread them thin to get maximum effect per round shot.

    They are actually working better in Kingdoms for me, compared to the vanilla ones.

    They fire consistently and they don't change ranks anymore.

    same here. especially cavaliermen. They seem to have a new version of the AI where the front bends down to allow the rears to fire and they smoothly change ranks. if only vanilla was liek that. Exceedingly lame when you know ca could have fixed it but didnt.

    Might depend on the unit in question I guess, Cossacks were changing rank for me.

    I always make sure they are in guard mode and disable run away. Dunno if that really helps.

    If you want to disable the rotating (Which I recommend) Go into the EDU and find all the gunpowder units with the line "fire_by_rank" and remove it.

    What overall effect does this have, though? To me, at least, it looks like the problem with gunners is the rank rotation feature is bugged, men spend so much time running to the back (my Cossack musketeers were doing this even when not firing at anything!) that they do not actually reload.

    every single gunner does it. Ive set them up in guard mode, run away disabled and maximum spread out. also all other possible set ups, even regarding formation.

    I cannot find the EDU. All files are packed in single large chunks.. maybe this is because i have the german kingdoms? It is of lower quality than the english version. like for example, the german version doesn't give you the second, funny general speeches.

    How can I extract the EDU?

    would I need the whole data folder to be extracted?

    unmodified files cannot be shared im afraid -SoR-

    I don't remember where I read this but keeping firearm units in a row of 3s does the job quite well.. I haven't been able to test this out myself.

    I would recommend simply directing them to line up (as in dragging your mouse button to change formations).

    when they are all nicely lined up, they work like swiss watch . I know it is quite annoying to do it during the battles, but it is something that is necessery if you want to get the most out of them, I suppose.

    You can thin your ranks by letting them die to rebels or something to the point where you can spread them out in one line.. its less men but they fire twice as fast, so its much more effective.

    I actually find they worked better with vanilla 1.2. I've never had them get stuck so much. They got nerfed too, before they would take down almost twice as many people per volley.

    If its raining, the powder will get wet, resulting in useless firearms.

    I can't say I've noticed this, my musketeers and canons fire just as well in the wet.

    First, your musketeers should have sighted the enemy units and within range. Turn off "fire at will" and simply click to shoot. However, sometimes when changing targets, the musketeers simply just standing around despite the unit icon is telling you they're shooting; or what could happen is they just take aim must do not pull the trigger. This can be solved by simply pressing the stop button and then continue on as usual.

    Musket units are given the "fire_by_rank" attribute as stated by Kalos. I too faced the same problem with gunpowder units. After removing fire_by_rank from all musket units, they have begun firing and reacting normally in battle.
