Generals - Can I Get More?

Hey everyone, just joined up, saw a pretty good discourse here and I'm a huge fan of the series (since Shogun, ya!).

Anyhow, I had a question about Generals. Not just people leading the army but about the title general. For example, when you start as Spain, you get Vaasco, who is just a general. He's not part of the family or anything and he can be adopted or married into the family.

So I was wondering, is there a way I can get more generals like Vaasco? I've been looking around and can't figure it out. I'm kind of picky when I play and I don't like adopting into my family (want to preserve the bloodline!) but I need more men to wreak havoc across the world since I don't trust my captains.

I thought I saw things about being able to recruit them in a few mods, but I'm just running the standard game, no mods or anything with it, so I was wondering if it's a possibility? Thanks for the help.

Only thing i can think of that early in the game, auto resolve a couple of battle's with just captains and you might get a "man of the hour" although i'm not sure if it makes them fam members or generals.

Ah Vaasco, i love that guy, i used him in all my battles in the Spanish campaign.

You don't need to autoresolve to get "Man of the Hour" and it generally happens if you have many more provinces than generals...

"Men of the Hour(s)" join the family tree.

It's a shame, I wish the Man of the Hour wouldn't add them to the family tree. I wish it would just add them as a General so then you could choose to marry them into the family or not.

But here's another question, and I've been playing but haven't been able to find out due to only birthing sons; I married off Vaasco to my princess, would his daughters become princesses for me to use? Technically he's not royalty but since he married a royal daughter, would his daughters be princesses too?

Like I said, he's fathered four sons, very nice, but not very helpful in my princess dillema.

Well, when he marries your princess and is a general of your own faction, it will became royalty, that's for sure.
If you marry a foreing general also it will become royalty.
If you marry a rebel general, your princess will lose its status and he will just become a normal general, the problem is that they are very few rebel generals that are single.
If you marry princes or even single kings you will lose your princess, but create a very good and profitable alliance with the faction your princess married, hope it helps.

Yeah, that's what I figured.

I don't mind marrying generals into my royal family, as long as they're joining through a princess. Since I want to keep it semi-realistic (and since there is no way to select your heir like in RTW), I don't want all those men of the hour and adoptions to be mucking up my family tree.

I've stolen a few foreigners with my princesses, but the problem is I can never decide who I want! Obviously as a Byzantine, I don't want to be walking around with my daughters married off to some German or Italian! Too bad the Polish don't have any available men to steal. . .

As Byzantium I ended up in war with everyone around me - so princesses had to walk halfway through my empire and then through enemy nations to get to a land where they could marry (usually France), aging on the way and picking up secret loves.

And their charm decreases and they pick up bad traits especially when the computer offers you a general that will marry them. And you reject because the general is either 55 years old or is actively disloyal.

That secret lover thing is murder. I wish there were better ways for Princess to pick up charm, aside from trying to shell out map information halfway through the game. Doesn't really seem to make much sense to me. It's a pain because if you try to marry them off with 0 charm, your poor generals suffer because their "wife is a wretch."

Here's a lesson to all the men out there, if you want your girlfriend to be hotter, just make sure she goes on some diplomatic endeavors before you get married.
