    Default Hard Drive Failure

I think I know the answer to my problem but I am honestly a ludite when it comes to computers for the most part so I want to see what you guys think.

My Hard Drive died on me last night. It was making a clicking sound on Sunday night and when I was able to get back to it in order to back up my files, it crashed before I could even begin the transfer.

After that, every time I tried launching the system it would give me an error saying that it could not locate Hard Drive.

I brought it into work and gave it to my IT guys and they couldn't get it to launch. Granted I don't think they tried slaving it to another drive. But right now all the drive does is make a clicking sound when ever it gets powered up.

Is there any hope of retreiving the data on it shy of sending it to a media retreaval specialist who will probably charge me bank?

There are all kinds of tricks people swear by, just search the net. Data has been recovered off of hdd's that have been in fires, there is almost always a way to get it back. Problem is it can get expensive.

Alas I don't have another PC nor any friends wiling to let me throw it into there's. My last recourse is to see if my old mac will see it if I manage to get it into the housing. Baring that, it seems its going to cost me either time or money or both.

    Thanks for the comments guys.

Take it to a local shop and ask if they can try and get the data off of it. They really shouldn't charge you more than a few bucks. Just tell them to add it too one of there pc's and see if the drive is accessible.

I took the chance of trying to load it up in the original housing after trying to slave in unsuccessfully in two other computers and got the thing to boot up just long enough to get my files up. And I mean when the last file was finished copying the drive crashed.

Thanks again for you suggestions though.
