    Default Problem with Texture/Model

I was creating units for the Kingdom of Georgia last night and I've come across this problem - there is a weird light blotch in the middle of these two units forehead.

    Example:

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Check out the unit on the far right in the foreground - his forehead.

Same deal with this one - weird white blotch in the middle of his forehead.

I can't seem to figure out if it's a problem with the texture, a problem with the .norm file's alpha channel or a problem with the model itself.

I was up late last night working on these guys, but I'm pretty sure I smoothed out that line that runs through a new model that some have experienced. Is it possible that I did this too many times?

    Stumped! Thanks in advance mates!

    Cheers!

Thanks, but I'm pretty sure I already did that with both units. Hmm:hmmm: I'll have a look again when I get home...

Try also with MS3D: Tools --> Model Information V7.0 --> Close (Close button not the white cross in the corner) and save the lod.

it's not a problem with the mesh, AFAIK. can you show us the diffuse and normal maps of the heads? and the UV map too

I'll post some pics when I get home from work. I'm thinking it's a problem with the texture. I darkened the hair for these guys (using the ee_peasant_leather_rebels.texture) and replaced the blonde-haired ones with the dark haired ones. I'm gonna guess the UV map is slightly off and is hitting a splotch of lighter skin-tone or something...

But I'd appreciate it, if someone could take a look at it. Thanks mate! You're a helpful one!

Did some testing. The model base I'm using is the non-upgraded EE Spearmen. I removed the hat from this model for my Georgian units when I first encountered the problem.

Tried removing the hats from the EE Spearmen model but otherwise leaving it unchanged. Same vanilla texture, etc. Loaded it up and the problem with the light diamond-shaped blotch was there on the EE Spearmen, as well. Guess the problem is with removing the hats. Weird. Anyone know of a way to fix this?

    Cheers!

I'll do that when I get home (at work), but right now my theory is that the EE Spearmen model has that little diamond-splotch even in vanilla with helmets attached. It's very faint but looks like it's there.

Maybe the problem is when you convert and re-convert back to .mesh, the problem gets exacerbated...because doing nothing more than remove the helmet for vanilla EE Spearmen and otherwise leaving it the same, leaves the problem..

    Very strange....

Also of note, I've noticed that the diff file saves a white alpha channel whenver I save it. I've checked the regular ee_peasant_leather texture file upon which this Anatolian Spearmen is based and it lacks this alpha channel.

Could this be the problem? Is there a way to get rid of this Alpha channel and save?

Cheers all! Sorry for the dumb questions, I'm new to this aspect of modding...but man, if it ain't more fun than text editing all day

your textures are exactly as they should be ... this is strange.

about the alpha channel then an all white alpha channel is fine, it just means that every things on the picture is showing.

think i'll go and check out those latvian units myself and see if i also have them white thingys (those are kingdoms skins right?)

Thanks for checking them out. It's actually the regular M2TW non-Kingdoms EE Spearmen non-upgrade .mesh file I used. Except I removed both Hat groups in milkshape. The texture is just the regular ol' mtw2_ee_peasant_rebels.texture. The splotch even appears with doing nothing more than removing the hats from the vanilla model - texture unchanged.

Figured it out. The problem is with "refreshing textures"...so it's now a choice between the lesser of two evils - weird white splotch on forehead or line running down the model...:hmmm:

the line down the middle can be removed by clicking off "auto smooth" in the "groups" tab.

looks like to me the mapping has been moved, or you haven't lined up the skin correctly.
