Default Why Should I Choose This Mod?

    hello there.

ive been doing some research about the different mods, and ive narrowed my choice down to 3:

    SPQR
    Roma Surrectum
    EB

I was wondering if people could explain to me what is different in this mod to the other ones, etc. I realise from reading the comments that all 3 mods are excellent. I gather SPQR is focused on gameplay and huge battles, whereas EB is more about realism, and strategies on the campaign map (I think!) So where does RS fit in?

The most important thing for me is that Im after a challenge (both on the battle field and off), something that is exciting to play and keeps me interested. (I found vanilla RTW lost my interest after a while for one reason and another).

    many thanks

RS fits in between the fast, not-quite-historical play of SPQR, which features frequent MASSIVE battles, and the slow, historically accurate play of EB, which features much smaller battles.

Our team is very fond of both those mods, but many of us have a Goldilocks reaction to them -- SPQR can be too WHAM! IN YOUR FACE! and EB can be too sloooooowww and careful... we find ourselves looking for something in-between.

RS is being designed by us as the 'just right' mod -- historically accurate, but still loose enough to have some fun units that aren't 100% date-appropriate (which will be most evident when we bring Sparta in as a faction) -- with big exciting battles, but not the endless stream of them that you fight with SPQR.

But ultimately, the only way to really figure out if a mod suits you is to play it for a few hours. Either things will 'click' and you'll become blissfully unaware of the passing hours, or some things will start to irritate you, and you'll lose patience with it and decide to try something else.

One other thing to consider is map scale -- both SPQR and RS use large scale maps, which play very differently than the smaller scale of the EB map. There's really no way to describe it, you have to try the big scale and see how you like it; it feels totally different.

    thanks for your helpful reply.

ive got a couple more questions - hope you dont mind...

what difficulty level should i play RS on in order to get the most out of it? Also, is there any mini mods for RS that i should consider installing before i start a campaign?

    many thanks

If you wanna play at an Insane level play H/VH because at very hard the player gets bonuses too. I dont knmow of any minimods. Iy your a Roman Player you will love the named and numbered legions, they have different standards and names and armor. If you play the greeks or any Helleinstic factions you can get Different city hoplites like Athenian Corinthian Rhodian and so on. Carthage has a very good looking roster and the barbarians have sweet and powerfull units. Not Jerks with no shirts on. And then the free people............. huge and horrible. Nothing like wiping them out. Its is a great mod

    HI
I have played first with XGM by Dimebagho
which is a very good modd.

Then i played Bare bones wars. Which i loved some of the units for Sparta and Greeks but it was a over kill of Greek Corinth. helmets!
so not too historical! Good landscapes and such.

Then to EBs which i loved their Barbarian Gauls and Germans.
and their Greeks were very historic yet not real enough for my taste.
And i hated being very careful trying to keep my Greeks alive! Since you started with very little $$
And the stacks were too few. Even tried their patches to help more money amounts.

Then to RS , Cool Roman corts shield! 35 legions or under?:hmmm: Better Sky's! Better detailed units, free peoples fun of 100 nation. Cool Romans, Just look at the previews all ready and you will see what you get! Ecellant formations, more updated skins of most factions except Rome, Carth, and Ibruia.
factions. Excellent map! Simple layout to build ! and a choice of recruiting at one turn or 0.
Which i use O. Because when my troops want to fight they come out and fight!
You have to think also! Because you are surrounded by nations that will not just die! Plus tones blow your mind Work and A.E. and all the other Fab.
Team members of RS !! they are just Gold!!
We are here to Skin, model, Discuss, make new plans for buildings ect ect..
And create a player based modd the way you want a modd to be, With meny new ideas comeing soon! It would make C.A. blush! Can i say that ??!........:hmmm: .
DVK is the crown of all this, and Ajas excellent reports and helps, with DRtads
knowledge of facts, and a large list of people like Cherry,Spartan, and many many others, to make this Modd the best you will find!
With only a cost of you local cable bill for the net!
Many changes are coming and you will love it!

Remember those Free peoples arnt just going to let you have their land!
your going to have work for it! plan build your troops a few turns.
also make friends with all factions as you can or you will face their stacks
    and they are not small!
I been playing this new campaign for now 3 months. off and on in a week. but also played RS since it started!
As the Romans i am fighting now carth, destroying Gauls, and facing now Germans and Darians, and attacking Greece Mace.
So be careful its tuff building an empire!

House rules.....you can onlt build one each of a named legion.

The Campaign is difficult, but not impossible. I can do OK, so that says something.

I don't really see the use of 'kill sheets'....as a player I'm more intersted in strategy, keeping my people happy...and surviving the jerk Free People!

How complete is it? Is it playable like EB or are units missing? When are the new Parthians and other new units going to get included?

It's very much playable as it is. Loads of big time fans who've been lured in....he he.
    But with 2.0 it'll be 10x better, no - 50x, no - 100x better

Ive chosen to play this mod because although Rome is my favorite faction, i wanted a taste of the greeks, and I think this mod is closest to SPQR without sacrificin the other factions.

from my short amount of play RS is the best on that I've encountered. It's really stable and the amount of AOR units is huge. If you don't like the 0 turn mod you can choose 1 turn build for units.
Can't wait to play RS II though.
