Do you think it is wrong to hit a girl - even in self-defense?

After reading through the responses to Westy's topic, I got the idea to start this topic.

Why do people think it is more wrong to hit a girl than a guy? Granted, they are weaker in general. But there's also guys who are just as weak as girls, yet it seems to be more accepted to beat them up regardless of that.

And if it is self-defense, why shouldn't it be perfectly justified to fight back against a girl? If a girl hit me with hostile intentions I would certainly beat the **** out of her. I don't care that I'm probably nearly twice as big. She attacked me and I would rightfully fight back.

To peacefully subdue her without actually hurting her, then it's ok, but hitting really should be the last resort, only if she's posing a serious physical threat (i.e. something that could land you in the hospital), then it's ok to do what's necessary.

Its wrong to hit living things reguardless.
You should only resort to violance if its necasary, and then it doesnt matter what you hit, boy or girl. When you need to do it, you need to do it!

if its genuine self defence then sure, you are more important than some poxy moral code like that. you have to be careful about what constitutes self defence, with a guy self defence can be "he called my mum a slag so i twated him"

Absolutely correct on the first score. We should show some honour by seeing our behaviour to women in general the way we would like our own mothers to be treated by others.

Is it possible that a lot of women now behave the way they do because perhaps of the way some men have treated them in the past, even living with violence? Violence breeds violence as they say.

I think it is wrong and it is only acceptable in cases where she has the means and the will to take your life. A man can take a punch by a woman, usually without feeling a thing. But the reverse is not true. It's like a man hitting a 14yo kid. Simply, not acceptable.

People seem to be working on the silly assumption that girls are weak, I've met a few that can throw a hell of a right hook. The whole "never hit a girl" thing is complete crap to me, you want equal rights? You get equal everything. I'd never hit someone who was much physically weaker than me (which would of course include children and 'girly' girls) but if a random woman came up to me in the street and punched me in the face, I'd hit her right back.

But if I were in situation where I would hit someone, it would not matter if other person was man or woman.

If he/she is stupid enough to go through all the trouble needed to really tick me off, he/she was in need of fast and violent lesson about reality.

First, if you do it intentionally, it's wrong.

Second, if you don't do it intentionally, it is wrong because you have lost your temper.

Third, I consider it very difficult although possible that a woman will resort to physical violence. In that case though, it is not allowed to a man to answer with the same. More so, because when a woman resorts to violence, it is likely that she is doing it to cause a reaction and have a justification to break a relationship, thus it is convenient just to stay calm, or either, outside personal affairs, because she has a very poor sociocultural background, thus it is simply better to avoid her.

1. She is a danger to yourself or others.

2. When she is a friend and you do it jokingly and lightly (not really hitting in this case)

Times not acceptable:

Any other time.

Quite simply, I've been brought up to believe this is simply not acceptable behavior, and I can quite proudly say I never have done on purpose (of course little knocks by accident are just that, accidents).
Most guys my size (6'1" and 80kg) are quite capable of subduing a girl without hitting them. I on more then one occasion have held down all the limbs of a girl, whether she's drunk, delusional or furious, but even when hit repeatedly in sensitive areas, I have never hit one deliberately.

I believe it is acceptable to hit anyone or anything in self-defense and it is not acceptable to hit anyone otherwise -- regardless of gender -- now if you can neutralize the threat without resorting to blows, you're obviously obligated to take that route. (As Eclipse notes above)

I once met one who felt all powerful and aggressive and emancipated and threatened me to ram her knees into my nuts just for fun, because she is a girl and I'll never possibly hit back. I held my right hand before her face and told her that this hand knows where her ovaries are. I don't know what went on in her mind's eye, but she let me move off in peace.
