A+ certification exam question....!!!

I took the A+ essential exam last week....got 650 and failed (requirement was 675)....anyway here is one question that i could not find anywhere. Maybe someone would know?

A PC has windows 2000 installed with service pack 2. The user want to update it to service pack 4.
a-install service pack 3 then serice pack 4.
b-uninstall serice pack 2 then install 4
c-sevice pack 4 already has service pack 3 buildin
d-service pack 4 will upgrade windows 2000 to windows XP

Which is the right answer? i picked c but dont know if it is the correct choice.

Without checking Windows update first I A would be the most logical choice. I can't see you should have to uninstall SP2 to install SP4, it makes no sense. D sounds as if the examiner ran out of ideas, and we now C is wrong.

C is the right answer. I was in hurry at work, didn't read it correctly.

Are these American exams?

Yup. American exam. Are are a few more questions that are just plain weird and werent covered in books....

i was joking the ansewer is C.

it doesnt matter what service pack you have, windows is idiot proof so you just update straght to number 4 it will have the fixes from number 3 built in.

you could have service pack 1 and go straght to 4.

I havent taken the exam yet, took a class on it though and got an A. How is the exam? Im still rather unsure of it considering it cost quite a bit to take. Wouldnt want to fail it and have to pay again (assuming u do). -Leon

Honestly, i found taking class for A+ is a waste. Just my opinion though. The exam is rather easy and straight forward. If you read the book or get A in you class, thhe exam should be easy for you. I took the exam without really repared for it.

There is one thing though. On my exam they asked serveral questions 15 or more out of 100 about you customer service skill/ how you deal with customer.

Here is a question i somewhat remembered.

You are a tech guy, hired to work on a PC in a server room at the client's site. When walking in, you find a pool of water on the floor next to the server.

a- Cleap up the mess yourself and work on the PC
b- Talk to the person in charge of the place and complain that it is dangerous to work in that environment.
c- ignore it and work on the PC.
d- Go back to you office and let your manager know of the issue.

Its something like that. I picked a, though i dont know if it was the right answers.
Anyway, you can expect a few questions like that. I just happened to have at least 15 of questions similar to this one. Good luck.

Ok here is another question i have for you guys.

Working on Windows XP, when you go to Start->Run>type in Defrag and hit Enter, a small black windows pops up and dissapeared immediately after. What really happened?

Never thought of that....i always think that you have to be proffessional and be nice to customer. Such a tricky question.

Your manager is a manager for reason, if somthing goes wrong it fall on him to get it fixed. It's your duty as an employee to tell your superviosr/boss, that something is wrong. If you get a question like that if one of answers is 'tell your manager', always pick that answer, unless its something more serious like a fire in which case you would sound the alarm.

Ok how about these 2 seperate questions:

1-You come to the client's site to work on a PC, the client talks to you and complains that your company provide bad services and will move on to a different Techsupport Company.
a- Ignore him and work on the PC
b- Tell them to go ahead and call the other company
c- Ensure the client that you will provide the best support as you always have to any customer and will fix the problem
d- Leave and talk to you manager

2-You are working on a laser printer and in the process of changing a toner. For some reason, the toner appears to be broken and stuffs are spilling out on the floor.

I’m at work and I’m using Windows 2000 so I can’t check this but it would appear then disappear because you haven’t selected the drive you want to defrag. You should type in something like defrag c:/ which should bring up the defrag tool.

Here’s a good question.

You’re the sole user of your computer which runs Windows XP. When you boot up Windows always asks you to login even though you’re the only user and you don’t use a password. How do you get around this?

You would think so wouldn't you, but no that not the right answer. You have to access a hidden control screen which can only be accessed via the start>Run command. In the run box you have to type 'control userpasswords2'.

If your wondering why windows started doing this its because you updated your Micorosft Net to 1.1. Silly buggers.

ah, yes, that was annoying, but now it seems to have reverted back for me, about 2-3 weeks ago iirc. But I always thought that this was due to me having XP home, and not being able to control this...

Yeah, I don't know anything about this test... but in pretty much any line of work, whenever something unexpected happens, and you have not been previously authorized to take care of it, you always tell the person in charge.

I used to work in a fast food restaurant, and on the wall were sets of instructions for different incidents... the first step in the instructions was always to tell/call the manager.
