The Muslim holy month of Ramadan has begun. In addition to fasting from dawn to dusk, Muslims are obligated to read the entire Koran during this month. Non-Muslims should be aware of some of the things their Muslim neighbors will be reading in the Koran:

The unbelievers among the people of the book and the pagans shall burn forever in the fire of Hell. They are the vilest of all creatures. (98.6).

Surely the vilest of animals in Allah's sight are those who disbelieve. (8.55)

The unbelievers are your inveterate enemy. (4:101)

Mohammed is God's apostle. Those who follow him are ruthless to the unbelievers but merciful to one another. (48:29).

It is unlawful for a believer to kill another believer, accidents excepted. (4:92)

Believers, take neither the Jews nor the Christians for your friends. (5:51)

Make war on them [non-Muslims] until idolatry shall cease and God's religion shall reign supreme. (8:40)

Fight against them until idolatry is no more and God's religion reigns supreme. (2:193)

The true believers fight for the cause of God, but the infidels fight for the devil. Fight then against the friends of Satan. (4:76)

We will put terror into the hearts of the unbelievers. (3:150)

I shall cast terror into the hearts of the infidels. Strike off their heads, strike off the very tips of their fingers. (8:12)

When the sacred months are over, slay the idolaters wherever you find them. (9:5)

Fight against such of those to whom the Scriptures were given as believe in neither God nor the Last Day, ... until they pay tribute out of hand and are utterly subdued. (9:29)

Prophet, make war on the unbelievers and the hypocrites and deal rigorously with them. (9:73 and 66:9)

Believers, make war on the infidels who dwell around you. Deal firmly with them. (9:123)

When you meet the unbelievers in the battlefield, strike off their heads. (47:4)

These and other passages in the Koran, which are considered Allah's literal word, will be important to non-Muslims until the imams preach to their congregations that these passages are no longer valid. So far, it has not happened.

So, I'm a Christian (formally) and I read the parts where my Lord wiped out the world, told his believers to murder disbelievers and so forth, do I now get an urge to do the same?

Thus, it raises the question, what is the purpose of this thread, other than bash Islamic religion? We all know that religions teach the most wonderful things and the most abhorent. If you want to engage in debate, please, at least come up with a real subject. I read the ENTIRE KORAN in 2 sittings. Doesn't take a month. Nor has it given me an urge to commit any offense. So why the focus on Ramadan or the time-period? Muslims read it all the time.

Some of the muslims here could no doubt explain to you that those verses need hadith or other historical sources to explain their CONTEXT. For a non-muslim they are an incitement to violence, hate and murder, but for the vast majority of muslims not necessarily so when the place and time etc are taken into account. Alternatively, search the 7 million threads on this matter which have already disappeared to the Cemetery.

Remember - the muslim figurehead is a guy with a heap of swords, not a shepherd, and his kingdom was on this earth, not a heavenly kingdom as Jesus taught.

The bible and the pentateuch incite christians and jews to do some pretty nasty stuff too. In my view it's OK as long as people don't take it too literally.

Reasons why the Commandments are bad:
1) Negating the idea that children are innocent of their parent's offences (even unto the third and fourth generations).
2) Forbids thought crime (coveting your neighbour's ox, donkey, wife, maidservant, manservant, house etc...). Is it possible to prevent bad thoughts? Isn't everyone guilty of the thought crime of envy on a nearly subconscious level every single day? What if it is subconscious is that still a sin?
3) Bans murder but not killing under certain special circumstances. (The original Hebrew translates as “Thou shalt not do murder.”)
4) “Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live.”
5) No banning of rape, slavery, child cruelty, ethnic cleansing, indiscriminate massacre – most of which are then actively encouraged in other places.


You get the general idea. The point I'm making is that it's all about context and application.

The Old Testament doesn't incite Christians to do anything. Hence "Old". We tend to follow the "New" Testament.

Example, when Jesus was asked "What is the most important of the Commandments?"

He answered "There are two. Love God, and Love others as you would have them love you."

Wow. Flame war incitement at it's best. Why do threads like this stay open? The OP isn't doing more than present a very biased view on a specific subject and a crooked selection of content, to which the reaction is quite predictable. Not jumping this train would be better. It's begging for attention, nothing more.
