Default FACTION PREVIEW: The Turkish Sultanate

    Infomation

Throughout the Middle Ages and into the Modern age, two Turkish empires have greatly influenced the events of history in the Middle East and abroad. From the steppes of Asia and the tribe of Oghuz came the Seljuk Turks who would establish the Seljuk empire in the 10th century, dominating the East to West trade routes and threatening the western world. Several hundred years later at the end of the 13th century, Osman, another Oghuz leader, would migrate to the Middle East and establish an even greater empire, the Ottoman empire. This empire would succeed in conquering the Byzantine empire-a feat that the Seljuk empire had failed to accomplished.

Absolutely incredible. So I'm guessing that their pros are janissary late period infantry, powerful horse archers, and a good amount of light cavalry, while there cons are a lack of melee cavalry until later, lack of armor till later, and weaker early infantry?

Don't forget a fatal lack of spearmen. Especially compared to their spear heavy future enemies...

Ghazni! Wewt! I can't wait to set up lines of pretty prickly points for the Turkish cavalry to run into.

Does this means you are extending the map to include the rest of the ERE and the balkans?

« There is no virtue in compulsory government charity, and there is no virtue in advocating it.

A politician who portrays himself as 'caring' and 'sensitive' because he wants to expand the government's charitable programs is merely saying that he's willing to try to do good with other people's money. Well, who isn't?

And a voter who takes pride in supporting such programs is telling us that he'll do good with his own money - if a gun is held to his head.» - P. J. O'Rourke

same here, i dont like attacking the seljuks, with grandviz AI they are my only allies, as the rest of the world instantly allies with each other, and i attack the ere and Georgians and Armenians, and the seljuks are attacked by EVERYONE. Abbasids, Khwarezm etc.

But dont you think that your reply came a bit late?

That would be so nice, to have BC map including the Balkans at least if it's having entire Europe going to be too much.

    Nice work!

The Janissary infantry looks somewhat 18-19th century-ish to me though. I'm no expert on Ottoman/Turkish history so I could be dreadfully wrong!

Strangely, you are, and you aren't.

The look of janissaries changed very little in 500 years, but by the 18th century Janissaries looked different. Their look in BC is what I would consider to be acceptable for 15th century. A few years late, but certainly not 19th century.

I have no resources that show what janissaries looked like in the 14th century, so I can neither confirm or deny that my janissary units can be classed as 14th century or not. I would imagine that they looked this way, with perhaps a few minor differences.

    Cheers
