    Default some troubleshooting help?

I just followed the instructions on the RTR site for installing RTR 6.0 Gold: reinstalled RTW, downloaded and installed the 1.2 patch, and downloaded and installed 6.0 Gold and the Music Add-on. Now when I go to start it, the game starts to load and then spontaneously quits itself. Does anyone have any idea why this could be, or have any suggestions for how to fix it? Anything would be appreciated!

What version was your RTW? Was it v1.0?
When exactly does it quits? During the Activision logo splash screen or when you want to start the campaign?
Do you get an error message? Do you have the -show_err command implemented on your shortcut?

I assume it was 1.0, since I never downloaded any patches or anything before downloading the 1.2 for RTR.

It quits on the screen right before the intro movie starts, that has the Creative Assembly logos and copyright whatnot on it. No error messages or anything. Just spontaneously quits, with no explanation.

And I don't have that command implemented, I've never heard of it before.

Se at the end of the guide how it should look. Try to do that and then start the game. If you get an error message remember it and write it here. It sometimes helps to figure out what happened.

I got the following error message:

Script Error in data/export_descr_ancillaries.txt, at line 85, column 12.

    Unknown attribute type(Combat_V_Barbarian)

Does this mean I need to re-download the RTR package, from a different source or something? Or can script errors be manually fixed? Because I'm an utter newb when it comes to manipulating game data that way.

No, when RTW Gold is installed over 1.5 the message that comes out is shown on the last bit of the following post; http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=117675

    Bascially, it's a garbage message.

The way to find out which version of RTW the poster has is to look at the version number shown in the top right hand side of the options menu.

It is possible to manually patch the game down from a version higher than 1.2 to 1.2. However, in most cases when the game is launched it asks for the original CD-ROM (where for instance RTW Gold will be on DVD).

The error message appears to show that something has become corrupted in the downloaded version of RTR (not that it's much help).

Well, I tried redownloading RTR from a different source, but it didn't help. So now I've just deleted it all and reinstalled RTW so I can at least play the game. Not really sure what to do about making RTR work, but this seems to be how it goes with me and computers. Do something that's simple and effortless for everyone else? No, because whatever computer I'm on decides that it's just different from every other computer like it, and throws up errors where no other computer will. Ah well.

Oh, it is 1.5! Wow, that explains everything then. I got the game from a friend of mine, so I assumed it was just the regular 1.0 version. But it turns out it wasn't.

I feel a tad bit idiotic now...

But thanks for your help, guys! I'm off to download the correct version now.

TWC has a very strict policy regarding any form of warez/cracks, and it is not allowed to discuss such topics. Saying 'I got the game from a friend of mine' or 'I'm off to download the correct version now.' could be perceived several ways, however I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and believe you have a legit copy. Just keep that in mind when you post something unclear

    Just a friendly reminder
