How to Use Spain

First and foremost, i would like to say hi to everyone(my first post here)
and i am glad to see a forum that is active. I have played Rome TW, and Rome, Barbarian invasion(both of which i thought great). Now i have bought M2TW, and am loving it!

Well, onto my question. . . as you can probably guess, I started my first Grand Campaign as the Spanish, thinking, "hey, i have my own little penisauala and 2 weak factions to quickly take over. So, started out just tecing and training a few cities, became allys with Portugal(thought i needed a friend while fighting the moors) and headed towards eastern spain to take the rebel settlement. After succesfully taking the settlement, i looked in my diplomacy to find out portugal just allied the Moors.

Well, this kinda threw me into shock, that a catholic nation should ally a islam nation. . . the very next turn, the moors attacked one of my weaker armys that i was positioning to take a northern rebel castle. Well, along with the moors declaring war on me, the portuguese did too. . .

So, soon after, they were excomunicated, and i procedded to wipe the portuguese out, entirelly, and removet the moors from spain. The pope loved me, and i already had 4 cardinals.

Then the french got mad me for taking a rebel town in France, and quickly declared war on me. Once again, i had the backing of the pope, and OFF TO WAR I WENT!

Just this time, i thought i might as well and pursue the weakened moors into Northern Africa. As i was fending off siege after siege, and slowly building up 2 stacks worth of armies in france, i sente a full stack into Northern Africa, quickly spliting it into 2 equal forces and marched towards the (what i thought) 2 last remaining moorish cities. After i took both morish cities, and was almost ready to begina a total war on france. I realized something. . . i hadn't wiped the moors out. . .sure enough, they had tunis also, so i sent a force there, and took it... still, moors were in play. . .(thuss Making me VERY angry toward the moors) and i sent an expeditionary flett down the cost of africa to spot any moorish cities. . .none. . . not even a fleet. . . although in spain, there quite a few moorish fleets, and priests still ingering aournd causing trouble. . . i checked, and they are not in sicily, or the town north of it. . . .(any ideas where to check next??? this really has me baffeled)

Then as i was marched my forces out onto the french, the Dutch(my allies) decided that fortress that i left with 180 archers, 60 mailed knights, 40 knights, and 60 peasants was too tempting. . .so siege. . .

After a fierce battle of 782 vs my 340(which i completely wiped them out) i was truely mad. . . and proceded to exterminate every french city i captured. . .

now. . .does anyone have ANY possible place for me to look next for those #!##!%* moors. . . im ready for another extermination. . ..

Check Africa again, they probably have Timbuktu and that other one. There are two paths that lead to one that goes down through the Sahara. One is below marakesh, the other is to the east a bit, then down through some mountains.

If you desperated enough, you can bring console(tilde key) and type toggle_fow.

Just don't get used to it, just check surroundings, if you new to game.
Dont start to do it on regular basis, it's cheating and will ruin your game fun

you just need to build like 50 watchtowers preferably with a useless general i often get the insane ones when playing as russia

Thanks, i will send some people down into the heart of Africa looking for the little good for nothings. . . im considering elimating the population of the last city of thiers. . .

Oh by the way, i am VERY sick ,(have been for a week now) and it seems to be getting worse. . . so this weekend i will not check the forums, but instead, lay in bed, and basically rest, wihle play ing M2TW on my laptop.

Thanks for the tips and hints. . . the only way i will use that "cheat" is if they are not in Africa. . . im ready for some Moorish genocide

I just spam watchtowers going from province to province.

2that Moorish situation - there some settlement in Africa that almost not accessible, probably they got it somehow. Dont let Moorish problem spoil your game, use toggle_fow once, it's not hurt you

Whenever I play as Spain, I always end up fighting the French, though I never advance far, lest the Pope turn on me. Moors and Portugal get eliminated before even looking at those two rebel settlements. After that I hunker down and build up. I find that with all of the Iberian peninsula and Africe under me control, efficiently managed produces crazy money. After building up I then go on a major offensive against anyone who wants it.

As for finding the Moors, send spys throughout Africa, and send a navy to look at those two Islands to the left of Italy, they normally show an interest in them.

first time i played spain i did the same thing you did,e xactly....

the moors are way south in africa, you can march through the desert so you have to follow the road/trail, just follow it down and to the west and you will find timbukto and then on the coast another rebel city

Thanks for all the tips, im feeling MUCH better. I actually lost all ability to talk for a day. . .gave me an excuse to lay in bed Saturday and play M2TW!


since i am at school right now, i might get on this weekend on my laptop. I will try to show some Pics of my current map. . . picture spain and france a s a big fist, with a long finger reaching out over northern Euorpe to the north baltic sea. Thats my map. . .

oh by the way, if i have the pics on my laptop, how do i get them to be posted here? would i need to setup a photobucket account? or what?

Photobucket should work fine. Simply upload the pictures to there, then insert the url to the image surround by [IMG] tags. I use photobucket as well, and if I remember correctly the url with tags should already be supplied in a small box underneath the image thumbnail.

What I find works with Spain is this. I kick the Moors out of Spain and wipe out the Portugese. I take over Bordeux and Toulouse, declaring war on the French if need be. Whilst doing this I turn Toledo, Granada and Pamplona into cities. This will make Spain very rich and you wont need castle produced troops until you can recruit armoured swordsmen in the first place. Spanish early troops are arse. What you need are the florins to recruit mercenary armies.

From this point on it is a simple exercise to destroy the Moors and capture the rebel towns on Corsica and Sardinia. From this point on it's up to you. A crusade will likely be called. When sending an army on crusade load it onto a strong fleet of cogs and take out the important cities you pass on the way that are either rebel, muslim or orthodox. I usually take Tunis which serves as a convenient retraining base for castle produced troops. Rhodes is usually still rebel, and makes good income. Cyprus is an excellent base if you intend to conquer the Levant.

Building up your fortresses in southern France should leave you unconcerned about invasion, you have dominated north Africa and island cities are rarely attacked. You are now rich and powerful and oh god I'm bored I'm going to turn this off and play as Russia.
