    Default Realtime vs High Priority

Just wondering if there is a problem with using Realtime as the priority setting for MTW as I recently experienced a bogdown and clipping when a battle involving about 5000 troops started.

I initially had the priority set to medium which was a major crapout so changed to High. It helped somewhat but was still a bit clunky even with the "High" setting and a lot of the other background crud shut down, i.e. anti-virus, Google Toolbar, etc.

It makes no sense to give a process real time priority, you loose performance due to missing ressources for your Os then. I can't remember the name but a friend once told me about a freeware program that lets you create a shortcut for an application, once you click the shortcut, the computer restarts and only loads the neccessary programs and frees up performance and memory for the game, you can also define the process priority.

When you are done playing you need to restart again to revert to the original configuration. This can help everyone who has a less top notch machine and definitly gives more performance than just fiddling with the taskmanager.

My issue isn't a poor machine (at least I don't think so) as I have a Dell XPS, but there is a ton of crap running in the background that I probably don't need.

If you could find the name of the program that'd be awesome and am sure would help many people.

    Thanks, Furin.

Otherwise, have you guys tried the tip given by Wirapuru in the "M2TW - Made for NVidia graphic cards?" thread about activating triple buffering and using a program called RivaTuner? It sure boosted the performance of my computer!

There's really no need to mess with process priority, windows already gives applications in the foreground higher priority. what you need is to optimize your system.

Do a search on google to find an explanation for each windows service and disable as much as you can in run>services.msc
(I only have about 5-6 windows services running)

Also disable any unused startup programs in
    run>msconfig

Disable your anti-virus "automatic protection" instead periodically do complete system scans.

Turn off VSYNC and dont use triple buffering (if its off)

Do a spyware scan (i think ad-aware is free)

defragmenting your hard drive should speed up the loading times (slightly)
