I'm in the middle of my first campaign playing as the Egyptians, using Very Hard/Very Hard settings and what a difference!
I've always set the game to Hard/Hard beforehand for various reasons, and I had no idea one level up could make such a difference.
The AI has the biggest boost it would seem. The AI is no longer passive (well nowhere near as bad as before) - they are virtually always attacking. I'm seeing more attacks and armies being transported and landing by naval vessels. I've suffered 4 crusades against Cairo and have beaten every army back so far. Obviously this hasn't done my relations with the Catholics any good but it's fun! Could the AI aggressive nature be more related to the 1.3 patch however? (I've got Kingdoms installed).
Also your income takes a huge knock - no longer can you expand fast. Blitzing successfully is virtually impossible. Merchants earn next to nothing unless you can "train" them to trade gold and silver.
Just a thought for those people that like to play on lesser levels, try a campaign on the hardest. This may not be news to a lot of you, but it's a revelation to me!
