Next question, how does the pope decide if he will accept ur crusade proposal, whats the formula, I assume it includes how much they like you but theres gottas be more to it.

Also how does the computer decide which settlements will be on that list that is ever changing? (Sometimes it can be frustrating to build up an army with an intent of a crusade to find that the settlement has been removed off the list for some reason, has it got something to do with the religion density?)

    any1 please?

i had this problem too as milan yesterday, was fighting the HRE who were excomunicated aswell as the spanish, but the pope declined crusades to both of them even though most crusade targets were spanish or HRE citys!

i havent got the highest rep with the pope, that might be the problem

Besides being excommunicated, how else do the settlements appear on the Crusade list, must be the religion break up, for sure...

AFAIK, the settlement needs a catholic presence but has to be owned by a non-catholic/excommunicated faction.

^^^^^That and you need to have an perfect reputations with the pope.

    1) Mostly anything Muslim will be agreed to, but the more lucrative, strategic cities (Jerusalem, Antioch, Gaza) will be more likely to be accepted.
    2) Anything Catholic must be excommunicated, actively attacking the Papal States, and must also be strategic or lucrative. Try faction capitals FTW. Good+ relations with the pope are always a bonus, and a successful crusade against one of their attackers is always a boost to your relations with them.

As far as I am aware, the Pope takes into account his relations with your faction, relations with the proposed targets faction, and the Catholic population of the target. As Spain I could never get a crusade on the way to Cordoba, because the Moors always seem to ally themselves with the Pope. Those dastardly heathens!

I'm not sure why, but calling to figures of such importance "Super Best Friends" just kicks ass.

I believe this is a reference to an episode of South Park with the same title.

You need only have a high reputation with the pope, if you have all the stars filled but two (or one or all of them), you will get the pope to agree to a crusade. The province choices are from Islamc or excommunicated factions. Not sure if Orthodox are eligible outright or if they have to be at war with the Papal States, that would be an interesting bit of info if anyone has it.

Not sure about crusades... but with Jihads I find it's usually rebel settlements that border other muslum factions. Once a lot of them are knocked out it's usually catholic factions capital cities. Which faction's capital's are chosen are usually:
    1. Catholic factions that are at war with a muslum faction
    2. Catholic factions that are allied with number 1
    3. Catholic factions that are allied with number 2 (etc etc)

You do realise that's pretty much the idea of being orthodox Although interestingly Ciclian Armenia helped the crusaders.

Take into account though that Heraclius did lose and then reconquered the Holy lands (including Antioch) from the Persians that were ravaging the area at that time. It was sort of a crusade, since the purpose was to regain the Holy Cross remains that Khosrau II took from Jerusalem, when he sieged conquered and slaughtered 90000 Christians that lived within the city.

It was a crusade (well the purpose really is the definition of a crusade) just didn't have the name

When the pope dies (as the first pope is always by default from the Papal States) and the next pope takes his place. Say for example it was England's cardinal who takes over as pope. Does he relocate to Rome or does the pope wander about England.

And also for that matter I have never had the pleasure of being elected a pope from one of my own cardinals. Do you get extra power or options being a Pope. Can you actually decide who to excommunicate? Basically what I'm saying is there any point trying to go after the pope position or is it purely a name in this game?

I was pretty disappointed. You get like full rep... (if your half rep... if you have like no rep with the pope you only get like half). Your rep goes down at the same rate. It isnt really that good. HIGHLY overrated that's for sure.

I had a mad experience with a crusade before,

the pope called a crusade on the mongols, next turn nearly the whole christian race joined and the pope called a ceasefire with the mongols leaving the other factions to do his dirty work... lol got a shot post it later. :hmmm:

If you go to war with another chatolic faction, he tends to be on your side, rather than excomunicate you after three turns of war.

And he moves to rome automaticly.
