    To simplify...Vassal = Slave.
    "There is a difference between what is wrong and what is evil. Evil is committed when clarity is taken away from what is clearly wrong, allowing wrong to be seen as less wrong, excusable, right, or an obligatory commandment of the Lord God Almighty.

    Evil is bad sold as good, wrong sold as right, injustice sold as justice. Like the coat of a virus, a thin veil of right can disguise enormous wrong and confer an ability to infect others."

    Way oversimplification...

    Vasselage is a contractual agreement based on oaths (and there was little more important in the medieval mind than an oath given freely and often sworn over a religious relic).

    The vassel swore to serve the lord in all things and the lord in turn swore to protect the vassel.

    However there is no implication of ownership in vasselage, it was a oath freely given. The whole 1066 William the Conquror thing was about an aledged oath of vasselage being sworn and broken...

    The most important things to know about vassalage is that a vassal is supposed to give all of his money left at the end of a turn to his lord;
    The number of vassal's provinces is added to the lord's province count; basically the vassalage is a form of alliance, with military access, supposed to be harder to break than the usual one, although it will break anyway.

    Guy...we're talking about the game. I am familiar with the European feudal system. However, the game doesn't get that complex. As far as the game is concerned, vassal=slave.

    Oh, I see what you are saying, sorry.

    edit: Lord Crusader described it appropriately above, but you should remember the vassel faction is still independent in it's decision making, you can't direct it...

    They tend to be more lenient to accept it when they're desperate for peace, on my dannish campaign, i vassalized Poland, who controlled way more territory than me, because they had a crusade against Vilnius and where under attack by a lot of nations.

    ive never had a vassal the entire time ive had med2 or rome...the ai never accepts unless you get them down to one city...and by that time why bother because they will end up sucking money out of your economy too if they are very unprofitable.

    Yeah, is better to gain money than to lose. But vassal nations only ask for money when theyu are in the brink of extinction and they have a plague int their only city, for example, im playing as Egypt, and i have eliminated my brother nations and Sicily, now the Papal States are my vassals, and im getting rich quickly, since Rome is the most rich and fertile region in the whole game, it's proved if you dont believe me.
    Going back to the vassal theme, the most profitable nations thath can become your vassals are Portugal, France, Milan, Venice, The Papal States, The Moors, The Byzantine Empire and Scotland.
