    Default Unit Size

    Finally I have successfully created my own modified text file (EVER!!!!!!!!) and had it working thanks to everyone in here.

    I edited the unit sizes and I have to say its incredible...!!!

    Basically I broke them down like this...

    Peasants, all light infranty, spearman, pikes, etc. = 250 men
    Heavy Infantry = 200 Men
    Archers = 180
    Light cavalry = 120
    Heavy Cavalry = 100
    Bodyguard = 60
    Siege Equip and artillery = doubled the amount of men and went from 2 to 4 pieces per battery

    I have to say... other than the much better Epic and realism feel, I beleive the AI seems to react better and utilize the larger units better for a couple reasons...

    1. with the smaller troop sizes, and when they routed.. there were usually nothing left ..so even if they did reform.. they were useless..

    not so much now.. they dont rout as quickly now and when a 250 man unit routs... they have been reforming with still a significant amount of men.... for instance I attacked a rebel unit and they routed when down to 190 men.. and they reformed and came back at me with the same power.. and they did it yet again with about 120 men...meanwhile I was talking casulties...

    2. secondly... the percentage that I increased the infantry units is greater (67%) then I did the archers (50%) ..this has really balanced things out better. I think the effectiveness of the archers was OK.. but what I beleive makes them unbalanced... is the fact that there were not enough infantry on the field to avoid annialating the opposing army... they took to high of a percentage of casualites (unrealistic)

    3. i also noticed they made better use of formations with the larger units.. for instance. they took some of there 250 man units and stretched them in to a 3-4 rank deep long line formation ... this helped for not only realism.. but it stretched the battlefield out instead of sending all there troops into one mass clump.... and it was harder for me to flank...

    siege and artillery.. 2 catapaults in a army .. no... no.. no... the earth needs to shake.... I doubled the catapaults and now actually have some siginificant noise

    also.. and this may be an obvoius statment.. the battles lasted twice if not 3 times longer I am actually working to the clock now instead of wiping out the enemy... granted the AI still does some stupid things... this by no means is a night and day difference.. but so far has improved gameplay

    And best of all.... I have not noticed any lag issue. I am running maxed graphics with a 2.2 ghz processer (AMD) and the NVIDIA 7600...
    ....Granted.. I only fought with 3/4 stacks... not full stacks yet... but I dont anticipate much lag... Well see....

    I made the unit sizes bigger in Kingdoms but it didn't make any differents to the game. How did you this and are you uploading it?

    ccllnply,

    Not sure what you are asking..

    any difference as in the sizes didnt increase? or any difference in that it didnt seem to help or hinder the battle?

    I was actually thinking of uploading... but truthfully I have never done that .. so I dont know how.. sure I can figure out..

    but basically... view the Desc. Unit txt in the Data folder under the specific campaign you are playing and at the top is the desc. of what each of the stats represent.. find the one for the number of troops...

    Forinstance.. peasants has 60 listed which equals 150.. change to 100 which equals 250...

    About the AI... there has to be SOMETHING that can be done, since the enemy never seems to have a plan, they can only seem to win by superior numbers, which in some instances makes no sense. It would be great if the enemy in Empire actually tries to learn your strategy, training units to counter the ones you mainly use, or even just trying to pool their armies to make enormous balanced behemoths that you are actually forced to deal with, seriously the AI needs to hamper you on every side. The biggest problem is that each faction in the Rome and Medieval 2 series has been too balanced, so whichever one the player chooses will almost inevitably win by a considerable stretch, removing a lot of potential for good strategy and immersive gameplay

    Hey Odie, do you know of a simpler and quicker way of changing these values without doing every single entry by hand? I'm not very experienced with the 'search and replace' function but I imagine this would be the best way.

    You need to unpack the files. Look in the tools folder.

    It's titled "export_descr_unit.txt"

    Should anyone feel so inclined to do so perhaps the values for each number above 150 men could be posted??/by value I mean the number that is actually altered in the EDU,as well as the amount of men that are given with each???i.e. 60=150,100=250 and so on???

    250 is the maximum unit size.

    Think of your base number of troops in the edu and multiply it by two and a half for huge settings.

    so

    50 = 125
    60 = 150
    80 = 200
    100 = 250
