    Default Saxons in Britannic Campaign

    hi have noticed remnants of the Saxons faction in Britannic Campaign code, no models or symbols so it seems CA had a different plan for this Campaign originally.

    So if anyone is interested in including the Saxons to their Britannic Campaign post info or ideas for setting, units, symbols, placement, faction summery, ect and we will get started.

    I was just going to bring over from RTWBI but that would be boring right?

    well ppl will say I want xxx faction too ect
    so I done some research and

    I found that these factions were on Britannia in 11th century when Saxons inclusion would fit best.

    But remember that of the above the Saxon kingdoms will be represented unified by the Saxon faction, the others will be left out unless I get a lot of help and historical info and a skinner. so please don't ask for these things unless your able and willing to contribute.

    FYI, I am involved with other mods so patience will be necessary

    info:

    Viking ruler Canute the Great (1016-1035)
    is he saxon?

    many towns including Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Waterford, and Wexford were founded by saxon
    vikings but no viking ruler claimed them.
    should these be minor rebel saxon settlements?

    in 1095, the King of Man and the Isles, Godred Crovan, was killed by Magnus Barelegs, King
    of Norway. Magnus and King Edgar of Scotland agreed a treaty. The islands would be
    controlled by Norway, but mainland territories would go to Scotland. The King of Norway
    continued to be nominally king of the Isles and Man. However, in 1156, The Kingdom was
    split into two. The Western Isles and Man continued as to be called the "Kingdom of Man
    and the Isles"
    later this kingdom became Lordship of the Isles under 'King of the Hebrides' Somerled. but this is not of this timeframe

    The Jarls of Orkney continued to rule much of Northern Scotland until 1196, when Harald
    Maddadsson agreed to pay tribute to William the Lion, King of Scots for his territories on the Mainland.

    One of the major battles involving Vikings was the Battle of Clontarf in 1014, in which
    Vikings fought both for High King Brian Boru's army and for the Viking-led army opposing
    the High King
    (from wikipedia) Viking-led army: King of Leinster, Máelmorda mac Murchada composed mainly
    of his own men, Viking mercenaries from Dublin and the Orkney Islands led by his cousin
    Sigtrygg, as well as the one rebellious king from the province of Ulster.
    so the irish start with saxon mercs lead by king brian against uprising from Dublin??
    there is alot of useful info on wikipedia about Battle of Clontarf
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Clontarf
    enough to make a prety detailed historical battle if someone is up to the task >nudge nudge<

    England is 1013-1042

    Viking Raven banner can be used for rebels

    White dragon used by Kingdom of Wessex, according to Henry of Huntingdon and Matthew of Westminster used a Golden Wyvern, which appears to have been used at the Battle of Hastings and depicted at least once on the Bayeux Tapestry at King Harold II's death

    should i use this as a basis for a faction symbol so long as i start the faction at Wessex??

    Canute is a Dan -Knut Bretvalda -high king of Britain in 9th century. I think from him word Great Dan is originated.His sons though left Britain for civil war in Denmark.Dominion of the Knut is Danelaw on your map not nesesarily Viking but of those who recognised him as high king so you should not place Saxons in Ireland and small isles for that was Viking's
    Dublin has been founded by Vikings
    Vikings were more complicated since some of them were arriving/departing from/to Scandinavia and some settled and were looking for new conquests like the same Dubliners for example
    In Pagan times Saxons too were using Raven banner since it is bird sacred to Odin(common God of either Anglo-Saxones either Scandinavians).
    White horse is a banner and a sign of any Saxonian noble- Saxonian prefered simplicity in Heraldry
    There also been North Norwegian Kingdom(meaning that South was Danish) which was a place from where Harald the Ruthless launched the attack in 1066.They tried it once more in 1088 but fleet was destroyed in storm- otherwise Norman rule would be a short-lived history-without loyalty of Saxon population to Normans Norwegians could stand a very chance to succed-they were more like Saxons - feet sure axemen of almost similar culture-not some arrogant French speaking Normans with complicated heraldry on horses shame on' em !

    Fitz Salnarville, Duke William's favourite knyghte,
    To noble Edelwarde his life dyd yielde;
    Withe hys tylte launce hee stroke with thilk a myghte,
    The Norman's bowels steemde upon the feeld.
    Old Salnarville beheld hys son lie ded, 235
    Against Erie Edelward his bowe-strynge drewe;
    But Harold at one blowe made tweine his head;
    He dy'd before the poignant arrowe flew.
    So was the hope of all the issue gone,
    And in one battle fell the sire and son
