    Default Turns and Age

    Hello to all of you!

First of all I must warn you. I am new to this game, and have very little time playing it, so you will probably see me asking very weird questions about Medieval II and the Stainless Steel mod in the future.

Here comes one of these questions:

Correct me, if I am wrong, but as far as I remember, one turn in "Stainless Steel" equals 2 years of game time. The "problem" is, that Characters only age one year each turn (which is kind of annoying), and I don't see a reason for a changing season (<- nice one, isn't it?) in this case.

In the vanilla game, one turn equals half a year, and characters age one year every 2 turns.

Question: Is it possible, to make one turn half a year again, and lower troops movement, raise building times and lower tax incomes, to adjust to the new time scale?
Example (Things are getting strange now, but bear with me): Normally a priest can walk on the map "4 centimeters" in one turn (2 years). Having 1 turn = 1/2 Year, the priest can only walk 1 cm. This way, he can walk "4 cm" in 4 turns, which is 2 years.

Example 2: A town gives me 200 florentines (sp?) taxes each turn (2 years). With 1 turn = 1/2 year it would give 50 florentines.

    One more thing:

Thanks to the mod makers (especially Kong Kong, I guess), for this awesome work.

    Cheers, mailor.

Hmmm, correct me if I'm wrong but SS is using a 1.5 y/t setting and vanilla 2 y/t SS has already been edited to the 1.5 settings.

If you still want to change the settings, look into your SEGA\Medieval II Total War\Stainless_Steel_Mod\data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign map and open descr_strat, there you will be able to change the turns per year.

Changing the building time etc is done in the export_descr_buildings file which is located in your SEGA\Medieval II Total War\Stainless_Steel_Mod\data map.

I'm not sure about taxes though someone else will need to help you with that.
If I am in any way unclear to you, post again and I shall explain it in depth. ( I am in a bit of a hurry now you see).

    Good luck and have fun.

Thanks wonkruben! That helps me a lot!

You are surely right about the 1.5 years per turn! Still, is there a way to make characters age 1.5 years per turn? Will they age 1 year per turn in Stainless Steel (sorry, can't try it out myself... )?

Something completely different: I just thought about making myself a signature with something like "I am a big fan of Stainless Steel". Now, I have seen some people on this forum abbreviate "Stainless Steel" with SS. It would have a total different meaning if I wrote "I am a big fan of SS" (which I am not, of course. But I find this rather funny... since I probably would have been banned for this...)

Euhm I believe the aging system is based on the amounts of winters, so you would need to edit some events in the descr_events file if I recall correctly the file is found also in the
    SEGA\Medieval II Total War\Stainless_Steel_Mod\data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign folder.

press ctrl + f and search for "winter"

but it is best to let someone else answer this question since I am not 100% you could afcourse backup your files and give it a spin.

The pace of aging of your characters is hardcoded into the game and nobody is able to change it. So it has to be left default despite changing turns per year settings.

You just have to learn to live with that just like we all did. Blame CA.

Actually in the vanilla game one turn equals 2 years as well. It's hardcoded from RTW where 1 year took 2 turns to pass.

Someone has worked out a way of making it so that characters age at the correct rate, however it totally buggers up the devastation on the map: it never goes away because the system relies on changing the seasons using scripts. This is rather game breaking.

The only way of making characters age at the correct rate is to set the timescale to 0.5.

    0.5 means 4 turns per 2 years?

    Wouldn't that mean 2 turns 1 year?

Yeah half a year per turn is just a little too slow for me. 1 year per turn is my limit.
