Default text file changes taking no effect

Using io_file first with nothing unpacked (to save space) I can put select files in the correct places and thus edit them (the game will first look to these modified files as they are free before checking for packed files)
This works fine for textures or models but not for text files. I can put any textfile in the correct place, but nothing will happen. the game seems to be using the packed text files instead of the modified unpacked ones first. How can I change this, so that the text files also take effect?

You have to put the .strings.bin file that you unpacked into the text directory alongside the file (if you mean the localised files)

If you mean the text files in data then they should work and you probably have some error in your set-up.

No thing is everything. Every thing is nothing.

yeah, I mean the data text files, whether its edu or battle_models.

If I have an error in the set-up, why would the texture files and model files work, but the text files not (I havent unpacked m2tw dont forget)?

No idea, maybe you have some error in a file that makes the game crap out at some point but doesn't immediately lead to a ctd or something. I'd try setting up a fresh mod folder and investigating.
