    Default First Contact

In many hollywood movies aliens are depicted to be hostile marauding creatures that want to take over the Earth or do harm to it's inhabitants, Independence Day, Alien, Predetor etc. My question is if aliens exsist ( which i blieve they do) which faction ( Man or Extrateristerial) will be hostile to one another when we engage in first contact.

And on another note which species should have dominace over each other

hawking had something relevant to say about this-- paraphrasing here

" If you look at every encounter of an advanced society with a primitive one; there is generally one result-- the destruction of the primitive society"

Considering that any alien visitors to Earth will likely have travelled far far longer a distance from their home planet to ours than we could ever hope to, I'd say that any visitors would be far more advanced than we are. Although it is debatable who would be the aggressors, although I'd venture a guess to say that we would. The fanatical religious would likely take the visitation as a sign of the apocalypse or some other such rediculous biblical event and attack the aliens, thinking they are demons. I'm not speaking of the religious type we have here but the fanatical Muslim element in the Middle East and other such true zealots.

If they've visited us so far, assuming those abductees aren't all nutjobs, they seem quite benign. Like a modern Westerner observing a troop of baboons.

...Or alternatively, they could be like the African farmer who wants to clear the forest the baboons live in. Bang bang.

Or even worse, they could be like the person who sees the ant nest and exterminates the ants, feeling absolutely no remorse.

Unless they accidently built an interstellar starship, I'd say so, yeah.

I think they would probably not even consider us-- they would just take what they wanted.

yeah I for one think a trans-galactic species would think of that little hang up--- I mean microbes are bound to be the basis of life in every quarter no matter what.-- but yeah I never liked that part of war of the worlds but it was super ****in cool for the 20s. or 1800s whenever he wrote that classic.

because they would be so powerful that they could sweep us out of the way no matter what we attempted to do to them-- it would seem more like god had arrived on earth rather than aliens( if they had sufficient technology)

their technology may be advanced however it is in no way invincibal, Im sure if aliens were to invade tomorow great leaders alikened to men like Wellington or Churchil will find smart/ swift ways to destoy this threat

actually if they have figured out ways around the speed of light or they have the technology to manipulate gravity or any number of forces we dont understand--- im pretty sure they would have undefeatable technology.

so what if they bomb Earth back to the stone age they would need some kind of foot infantry to secure and maintain taken territory. Defenders always have an advantage

Then we'd ambush their grav-speeders with clubs and sticks! This isn't Halo buddy. If something could travel galaxies to another planet, I'm sure they would be able to glass it as well. Hell, even we humans could do that.

Maybe it all happened already, they came here and made people build the pyramids and people got pissed off and we whacked them with sticks and boards with nails in them till the aliens left.

no we would have a chance against human invaders-- I just dont think we would stand any chance against a species with ill intent who managed to master the secrets of interstellar travel !--- perhaps my mind will change when we ourselves are figuring out ways around the laws of the universe.

what if they are not violent? and just curious wanders in the great vastness of space. Are humans cursed with the evils of greed and ignorance?

well then we are in good luck !-- one could say the only way a society will ever reach such high technological levels is by putting such petty things behind us ( greed wrath etc)

more than likely if they recognize us as creatures worthy enough to develop on our own they will treat us the way a respectable scientist treats what he studies-- he observes for a long time; does small tests and tries not to interfere

If an alien race did travel to Earth with ill-intent, I'd hazard a guess that with such advanced technology they would be smart enough to perform some recon before declaring an invasion. With that in mind I'm sure they wouldn't invade if they couldn't sweep aside opposition quite easily. And who's to say what weapon they use? Maybe they read War of the Worlds, maybe they thought it'd be ironic to infect us with killer bacteria we can't find a cure for.
