Default It is God's Will!, but is it my own?(A kingdom of Jerusalem AAR)

Greetings, my name is Captain Simon, or "grandmaster Simon" my troops joke. I have arrived in the Holy Land leading a small patrol due to the political graces of my mother. I've been told I shall be riding in God's glory and become sinless. Apparently I shall through the fires of purgatory, putting myself through hell. This place is hell, the sand whips at you, the sun beats down on you, and the Saracen bastards strike you from the air. I have become distant with the higher ups, and so am stuck politically and morally. I do not take part in the pillage many of my brethren share. Perhaps me treating the locals with respect will help me survive and truly find God. If I can just survive one more battle has become my watchword...

The Year 1174 of our Lord

The higher nobles want more money. So they have their eyes set on the outfringes of the kingdom

    [/I]

King Baldwin has started setting in motions a major campaign. So far I have not received orders but I shall be "patrolling"

My army is quite small and this should be my first real battle. My mother has luckily managed to set me up with an asset, Perkins.

The time to act is now. I have started to call up levies of mounted seargents and infantry to prepare the assault. This battle will be hard, but I must take it before Baldwin assembles the grand campaign. If I contribute the victory to him, it may elevate me to a higher position. With the position of governor, I could save the souls of the infidels, I could truly do God's work. Hopefully, God will give me strength to stop my soldiers from pillaging the city.

One thing disturbs me, King Baldwin in his haste to do "God's will" has left the rear flank completely open...

I pray the Saracens don't find out

(OOC: I'll update this with the battle, I wanted to get the meat down coz my comp is acting funny)

    Year 1174 of our Lord
    The Siege of Banyas

The crusader army of King Baldwin has advanced faster then I thought. I have called up troops from Acre and have planned to siege Banyas as soon as possible. God is on my side today, as Perkins managed to bribe the locals to open the gates.

I am paired with the rash "Captain James" He is a low-born noble who is like a dog of 'God' He is intent on taking the city and massacring the population of Banyas in the name of "God" BHAI!, the fool, rashness will only get him killed.

The sun beats down on me. My armour is heavy and my body is nervous. I have the feeling of electricity running down my body. Yet I am also at peace with myself and God. I shall enter the fray first thing, I'll trust in the true God to keep me alive so I may do his work.

Captain James has taken his patrol to outflank the Saracens. He is rashly advancing and I have no intent of sacrificing my troops to save his ass. God will keep him alive it is meant to be. I order my cavalry to enter the gates

I charge through the gates. The battle is rough as the Saracens through their spears at such close range. Many of my unit is decimated and yet, miracously, I am not killed. I become one with the accursed environment, I feel the vibrations of the horses, hear the sounds of the swords. I think in primitive thoughts. Strike, parry, back, down, duck, stab, parry, defend, block,

We slowly push the devils back from the gate. Meanwhile, Captain James is in the city and being decimated by the Saracens. His troops are tired and are dieing slowly.

I order the Templar crossbowmen to fire back at the Saracens for an attempt of covering fire as my knights advance. The knights are slowly being struck down by javelins so the Sergeants come in. There large shields and being lower help defend them. Slowly we continue to push the Saracens back.

The Constable of Jerusalem is outflanking the Saracens and even Captain James forces are holding. Despite later learning he died in the square before I got there. My bodyguard itself is decimated, I decide to pull back and get an overall look of the situation. I order my knights back, the Saracen missiles are taking a toll, let the sergeant brethren have their share.

The Jerusalem knights start taking a beating as the Saracens have fought back Captain Jame's patrol. I order them back as the Saracens would massacre them. I have my knights move so we can do another flanking attemp once we reach the main square. The desert archers fire fire arrows in an attempt to scare us. They do not scare me as they fall around my horse, I trust in God

The spears slowly take a toll on the mainly mounted Saracen forces as their horses fall to the ground screaming.

I give the signal and the knights move to flank the Saracens. The battle is definitely in our favour now, however, the Saracens do fight like trapped rodents.

Finally our knights strike down the cowardly commander! With the fall of him represents the fall of Banyas. It is only a matter of an hour or two now.

Finally we take the down. I wipe the sweat off my brow. My body slowly returns to the feeling of heaviness and exhaustion. I no longer am flying between life, death, and God. As my senses returns to normal, Perkins comes to me. The casualties are grim. I'm notified we have lost 33% of troops, however, most of them were under the command of the 'esteemed' captain James. May their sins be forgiven for being under the command of an insolent commander.

Banyas has fallen. I spare the citizens and only slight plundering. King Baldwin's target is now the heavily defended Damascus. Perhaps I can protect his flank by taking Ballbek...

It was mostly because I assaulted the town with just the gates open. The close street combat let the javelins pierce my knights armour quickly.
