    Default Continuous crashing

(This has to deal with Kingdoms, btw)

In every game I've played so far, whenever I kill the enemy general and it is about to go to the cutscene, M2TW:K has an instant CTD, and has a popup message of "M2TW:K has encountered an unspecified error and needs to close."

Is it a bad install? I haven't messed with any of the stuff in the M2TW:K folder.

Well, I just did a clean reinstall, and the same problem persists. It's really a giant pain in the arse, what with me not being able to playing the game and all.

I have the same problem, and haven't found a solution yet.
I have a clean install, my computer is running perfectly and doesn't overheat or anything like that which is suggested in other threads and I already tried disabling battle events and banners but that doesn't make a difference.

I've had this problem before kingdoms too, but hoped that the expansion finally would fix that bug.

Great, now it's even worse! I can't play a custom game anymore on the original M2TW and I can't do anything on Kingdoms either.

I think that if I FULLY uninstall everything it might work, but it's getting horribly annoying to deal with this. :/

Alright, I posted this problem at the totalwar local forums and they found a solution.

    This is a Vista bug.
Disable cutscenes manually to skip the crashes. Edit the appropriate line in the preferences.cfg file located in :

    C:\Users\your user name\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\

It appears to be Realtek audio driver related.
And an additional note, you HAVE to follow this path DIRECTLY or else it won't show up everything. It will only show two editable lines.

I have Vista, but not the folder you mentioned. The only thing in my virtual store\program files is from Creative, since I have an X-Fi and not realtek sound.

Also I already tried disabling the cutscenes through medieval2.preference.cfg but that didn't stop the crashes.

I have the exact same problem.
As a teenager, I was taken to various houses and flats above takeaways in the north of England, to be beaten, tortured and raped over 100 times. I was called a “white slag” and “white ****” as they beat me.

Go to your medieval 2 total war directory and go to preferences.
