Aztec Merchants

Just got the game last night. So far I'm impressed.

I started the Americas Campaign with the Aztecs but I'm poor and there's all these resources around, yet I can't seem to produce merchants. I know that gold shouldn't really be worth much to me as an Aztec, but I should be able to sell it to the spanish and other europeans.

any thoughts or help?

I don't think the natives get merchants.
However if you got gold on your lands then you can build mines which will give a nice boost to your income.

hmm, thanks for the response.

I guess that's an option. Right now I have trade rights with spain, although I don't like the fact that their merchants are on my land allowing the spanish to get rich, I know I'll be fighting them later...
