How do you battle ignorance?

Half my family members are Ignorant (or in the case of my faction leader: SADLY ignorant.) for some reason, and they are causing quite a bit of unrest on some of my more unstable cities. Is there a way to battle it\prevent it from happening to future generations?

Do it the Darwin way, kill the ignorant family members so they don't have kids... Evolution rocks!

Let those family members die in battle (say its for the good of Catholicism ) and don't adopt stupid sons

Isn't that because you let them stay too long in a city with a brothel (or higher leveled "tavern" building)

Yes, but then they are very good at keeping public order low so I keep them there. They also fight off the occasional attack.

If you're Denmark/HRE you can build castle libraries at Citadel level that can give your General's the "Smart" trait - even if they have Ignorant (Hey you can be smart and ignorant at the same time), but they can't get ignorant if already Smart.

If you're other Western European, you can build Military Academies that can give them the "Strategist" Command increasing line and (I think) "Talent with numbers" line.

Oh, and don't put brothels in cities unless you need the happy/growth really bad; or you're making a spy/assassin city (I love those).

IMO the negative traits are too easy to get in the game.(My generals are always getting negative traits almost every turn, but rarely get any positive traits)

I Think that generals with higher command and governing should become less likely to be ignorant or develop problems the smarter they become.

If you just leave a general in a city, he will get the negative traits. All you have to do is move them around.

I've got my best general with full stats in my highest income city. If he leaves public order drops big time. I'm going to have to move him soon because all the family members are alcoholics. He's at social drinker now.
