A very noob'ish question about merchants...

What do they do, how do i use 'em ?

I just haven't played MTW2 for so long that i completely forgot how to use those merchants

Well they can take out other merchants and you can use them by justwalking over a trade resource. They will add florins every turn [the amount depends on how much the trade resource is worth].

the amount also depends on their skill level. And if you've never played that's one thing. But to not play for a while and forget such a thing?

I didn't used them much in vanilla.

because for the most, they're not really worth it. playing in half a year per turn mode, although, they can get really high skilled and live longer, so they can really bring in the cash, and once they have high enough skill not many other merchants will be able to steal their stuff.

the amount of money you earn is base on merchant skill + the resource's distance to your capital ( the further away the more florins you earn) obviously gold silver ivory + silk earns alot.
