Problems with Byzantine

I hear that Byzantine is fun but so far its nothing but problems for me.

When i use Circle formation with my horses they start circling but they are not circling the enemy i tell them too. I mean its pretty pointless to be circling nothing. Whats the deal with that?

When i go into battle with my horse archers setting to "fire at will" to off they wont melee. I tell them to attack a group and they always fall short of the group and stand there getting beat down by arrows, or they keep running back and forth like they are lost of something.

Are they afraid?

I don't see it in their Moods when i hover over them they are always eager and fresh.

Anyway it seems really different then RTW as far as the behavior of the troops. I just cant seem to get them to do what i want them to.

They just circle round as they are less likely to be hit by arrows, they do not circle round enemy units.

You've likely got skirmish mode turned on, and alt + right clicking will get them to charge in.

check if the swords in their unit icon is yellow, if it is then it means skirmish mode is on, wich makes ranged units fall back when the enemie gets too close.
