I am planning to write a script that somewhere in mid game Martin Luther introduces Protestanism in Europe. Then the Catholic factions can opt to officially change their religion and then demolish their churches in order to build the Protestant ones.
The benefit of converting to Protestanism is that the faction are freed from the control of the Papacy - which means it can go attack other Catholic factions or even sack Rome without any excommunication penalty. The Protestant Churches also carry a slightly higher happiness bonus because the loyalty of the church lies to the King (am i wrong????).
But the cons are of course, since the faction is no longer serving the Pope it can not participate in any Crusades. Also they can expect Inquisitors to be knocking their doorstep every single turn. Plus, the relations between the Papal States and that faction greatly detiorates (and post possibly they declare war at you).
Good idea or not?Sorry for my totally sucktastic English...
