    Default Teutonic campaign

what's a good idea to get economy up for this faction. army upkeep is so much and not really rich towns early.

should I just go into the "red" and keep conquring towns? and hope that my economy will come back to the black"

    i hate to disband units.

also how come no family tree for the order?

If you hate to disband units I'm afraid I'll have to disappoint you. At the start the Teutonic Order get's more units then you're economy allows. So you'll either have to blitz the crap out of Lithuania, Poland whatever your choice is or disband some units at the start.

uhm for me I get very little units and spread out like hell, and of course the "reds" minus florins, but I think the little units I got even if powerful aren't enough to blitz lithaunia.

I had much problems after conquering 3 cities from them, because they tend to have their armies lurking around their towns and I'll take on 3-4 at the same time with only a full stack because I cant afford more and lost so many.

What you should do is look around and try to capture some really good cities, I like to go for some of lithuania's cities within the first 5 turns, blitz them, sack them, raise taxes, etc. It's a terrible idea to fight a two front war, especially with poland and lithuania as your forces are spread out, both have have good cities. Especially also because Lithuania tends to ally Novgorod and they can be goaded into war. I like to ally Denmark and Poland, as they tend not to backstab very often. Once you take out Lithuania (the best strat is to secure their most strategic places first and then blitz the capital and sack it).

For desperate measures, convert some unwanted castles to cities, and disband some expensive troops. I always like to economize by starting off with only training cheap units, such as peasants, clerics, archers, and if I can afford them, Order Spearmen and Sword Bretheren.

Also, this works when you have a large army devastated and you need to retrain it, as long as you have a resonable treasury. What I do is I merge units together to get really polarized stacks (i.e. one unit has 16 men, the other 150), and then I retrain the really low ones. As simple as this may seem, I retrained a devastated Crusader army in the Holy land in 2 turns.

Basically, its all about how well you can economize.

for me it worked out this time crushing lithaunia. allied with mongols and HRE long term now.

I was also allied to poland previously but it broke in favour of HRE, and then when Poland was at war with mongols and HRE at the same time, they requested me to ally with them to seize wars. I demanded a region from them an they agreed.

however two turns later HRE and mongols declared war again, and I broke my alliance, so poland decided to go on war with me too. well, too bad, I have strongholds to their borders and took 2 of their cities plus the one i got as gift.

novgorod has not attacked me yet but they have two rather strong armies north of my cities for quite some time. suspicious.

As for your second question, there's no family tree because it's not really a kingdom with a royal family. When your leader dies the best general is selected from your living generals.

nope, not best. if grosskomtur dies, ordenmarshall is changed into grosskomtur and the best general after him becomes ordenmarshall.

treat is as grosskomtur = king and ordenmarshall = prince.

Well, considering that the other guy was once your best general, he should still be one of, if not your best general still.

That hasn't proven to be the case in my campaign. I've had the Ordenmarshall remain as such while another non-titled general was raised to Hochmeister after the previous one died. In fact that's happened twice now. Also the new Ordenmarshalls no longer have the "faction heir" trait listed, I suspect it's originally there only because of a limitation in the game engine.

i realy fond of Teutonic campain . I 1m playing for Novgorod now and i noticed some strange thing that Denmark is much morwe agressive than for example Teutonic order. So i concentrated most of forces against them. Playing for Novgorod the best strategy is to make alliance with Lithuania ant Mongols aainst Denmark Poland. And also be ready for a long war with order

    okay, i played pretty conservatively,

building (roads, markets, ports, etc) and not spending a penny on recruiting any new units (aside from FREE garrison units) so far I took 4 of Lithuanian towns (2 large town with over 1000 income).

so my upkeep keep decreasing with losing army (slowly) and with no new units. i can still those Lithuanian Pagans with just the units I started with.

now i get about 3000-5000+ gold per turn.. 4 towns . i won't even call that a blitz. Lithuania still have 5-6 provinces left.

    BTW this is on VH/VH.

First i blitzed tha crap out of Lithuania, next was Poland. Money comes as cities fall. Exterminate. Sack.
