I tried to choose as many as possible of those South Arabian gods that were relatively familar to the Sabaeans. I agree that they are quite close to each other, but on the other hand they were also the national gods of those regional kingdoms. I didn´t want to use too much speculation, but keep it safe when it comes to historical time and place...

    Sabaean temple suggestion.

    Athtar (farming)
Ta'lab (hunting) or Abgal (horse),(I prefer Ta'lab more than Abgal.)
    Almaqah (justice)
    Al-Kutbay (trade)

I think this temples set is a balancing one which combine governing, economic and war aspect in this set.

    That (Athtar + Ta´lab + Almaqah + Al-Kutbay) sounds a reasonable combination.

To Archbaker: Fulla has life giver aspect but I still cannot find more. But I think you are right here, I should not force square block to the round hole.

Is "Era" the germanic name of "Eir"?

This is description of Forsite(Forseti in Norse), germanic god of peaceful justice. He has been worship in Germanic low country.

    Culture: German factions
    Temple: temple_of_justice/law
    Name: Forsite
Description: This Shrine is dedicated to Fosite(or Forsizo), god of justice through arbitration and also a settler of lawsuits and quarrels, peace and truth. Forseti was considered the wisest and most eloquent of gods. In contrast to his fellow god Ziu, who presided over the bloody affairs of carnal law, Forsite presided over disputes resolved by mediation. He sat in his hall, dispensing justice to those who sought it, and was said to be able to always provide a solution that all parties considered fair. He was a gentle god and favored peace so all judged by him could live in safety as long as they upheld his sentence. Forsite was so respected that only the most solemn oaths were uttered in his name. He is thought to have been the chief god or ancestor of the Germanic Frisians.

I think he could properly replace Saxnot since Saxnot is other name of Ziu for Saxon.

When I try to find healing aspect of fulla, I found other fertility goddess with healing aspect instead. Her name is Ostara, which Norse called her Idunna, and Easter is root from her festival. Austria is name after her.

    Culture: German factions
    Temple: temple_of_healing/Fertility
    Name: Ostara
Description: This Shrine is dedicated to Ostara, goddess of the radiant dawn, eternal youth, and rebirth, and so is a fitting matron of Springs' regeneration of fertility, and life which comes with the return of the growing season. Her symbols are apples, which she said to keep the treasured apples which grace the Gods with immortality, and eggs, symbolizing eternal life and fertility, one of the oldest and holiest symbols of life and rebirth among the Germanic folk, appearing as grave-gifts from the Bronze Age onward. Her life renewing Apples and Eggs are merely a symbolic representation of the primordial seeds of life and generative and regenerative ability, the source of life and ‘life germination’ which Ostara bears within her very being. Her totem animal is the Rabbit, due to quick and numerous reproduction. Ostara is celebrated with a feast day on the Spring Equinox.

What do you think about Forsite and Ostara, Archbaker?

Faction temples sets in XGM 5.5.8

    Code:
    Rome(Romans) 9	Ceres(Fertility), Vulcan(Forge), Bacchus(Fun), Juno(Healing), Saturn(Law), Jupiter(Leadership), Neptune(Naval), Mercury(Trade), Mars(Violence)

Greeks Rebel(Greeks)	Not sure, supposed to have same set as Greeks Cities
Gaul Independent(Celts)	Not sure, supposed to have same set as Gaul
I suggest factions that need to change their temples set are

    Code:
Carthage (Too few temples, suggest to add temple of Naval and include special ship on same level of western civilization since they are mariner empire.)
Parthia (Have only one temple in set but it seem logical since they are Monotheism. badly need discussions.)
    German (Too few temples.)
Baktria (The temples set that in use is the copy of Seleucid's one but without temple of Naval.)
    Armenia (Too few temples.)
    Saba (Too few temples)
Greeks Cities (Should have more Variety of temple choices in set to reflect diversity in faction especially all nonempire-specific since they valued freedom.)
    Scythia (Too few temples.)
Iberia (The temples set that in use is the copy of Gaul's one)
Carthage Rebel (Too few temples, suggest to add temple of Battleforge(Gurzil) to reflect Berber and other non Pheonicians people in North Africa.)
Romans Rebel (Should have nonempire-specific temple set.)
Greeks Rebel (Should have more Variety of temple choices in set to reflect diversity in faction.)
Gaul Independent	(Should have more variety of temple choices in set than what Gaul have to reflect vast area they cover.)
    What do you think?

    Wishlist

After I work on temple descriptions, I start to have some wish to change about temple system. I think I should discuss with other people in temple descriptions team before send it to modder to considered. For now are

    1) Full level5 upgrade for temple of Battleforge(and maybe temple of Horse_2) since now every faction can upgrade it but, for Western and Parthia factions, they level cap is lower than other temple's types.
    2) Set temple of Horse_2's type for Buddhist's temple since buddhism is differ from monotheism in many aspects, eventhough both have missionary to spread believer and differ from other polytheism religion, especially Buddhism in that era lacked of violence aspect that Monotheism had. For this, it need to expand Horse_2 cap from level3 to level5 and change its bonus.
    3) Change temple set of Baktria to differ from Seleucid, Iberia to differ from Gaul.
    4) Change temple set of Gaul Independent, Roman Rebel, Carthage Rebel, Greeks Rebel to have more choice than their peers but exclude from Empire-related/specific gods since they are rebel who valued freedom anyway
    5) Revised temples's bonuses of temple set to be more balance among each temple's types since now temple of Naval for non-western factions is no use compare to temple of Trade. Temple of Battle/Victory/Violence have lesser in bonuses when compare with Temple of Horse/Horse_2 eventhough they have similar bonus. Many temple's types have no different bonuses such as Fertility/Love group, Battle/Victory/Violence/Horse/Horse_2 group and Governors/justice/Law/Leadership/One_god group.

Any one have suggestion to add and sent as ideas from temple descriptions team then?

To LucretiusTC: Your description of Vesta is good indeed. Most people that know Vesta didn't know her aspect on food production and this made your description great.

    Default Re: Job: Temple Descriptions

Friends..Romans...Countrymen...Here are the brand new Temple Descriptions for all the 18 Roman gods. I tried to add all sort of cultural historical details about those ancient gods, cults, and society. I mentioned that Capitoline Triad (Jupiter, Juno, Minerva) in various cases in the text, but I think it cannot be used as "temple of one god". So here it is:

THE ROMAN PANTHEON FOR THE XGM

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

    1.
    Culture: Roman
    Temple: temple_of_battle
    Name: Bellona
Description: This Shrine is dedicated to Bellona, the Roman goddess of war, who rode in a chariot with Mars and Discordia (Eris), goddess of strife, in the heat of the battle. Her temple at Rome stood in the Campus Martius, near the Flaminian Circus, and outside the gates of the city. It was there that the Senate met to discuss a general's claim to a triumph, and to receive ambassadors from foreign states. Bellona's attribute is a sword and she is depicted wearing a helmet and armed with a spear and a torch.

    2.
    Culture: Roman
    Temple: temple_of_battleforge
    Name: Minerva
Description: This Shrine is dedicated Minerva, the Roman goddess of wisdom and war, who was one of the Capitoline triad, in association with Jupiter and Juno, which occupied the chief place in the state religion of Rome. Minerva is thought to be of Etruscan origin, and she was equated with the Greek Athena as the goddess of war and victory. She also presided over all handicrafts, inventions, arts and sciences. At the later time the great festival of Minervalia lasted over five days, the last four being chiefly occupied with gladiatorial shows - because Minerva was the goddess of war.

    3.
    Culture: Roman
    Temple: temple_of_farming
    Name: Vesta
Description: This Shrine is dedicated to Vesta, the Roman goddess of fire and domestic hearth. In Republican times of Rome every invocation had to begin with the God Janus and had to end with calling Vesta. Her cult, which involved the guardianship of an ever burning sacred fire, was most probably derived from a very early custom for each village to maintain a constant fire for general use. In the springtime the Vestal Virgins plucked the first ears of the early corn, and the worship of Vesta sanctified the flour of daily use. For this reason she was the patroness of millers and bakers who kept seven day holiday at the time of her chief festival, Vestalia. The work of the mills was stopped, and all the patient beasts that turned them were allowed to rest, and they were garlanded with flowers.

    4.
    Culture: Roman
    Temple: temple_of_fertility
    Name: Ceres
Description: This Shrine is dedicated to Ceres, an old Italian goddess of agriculture and grain. A long time ago, on the occasion of a severe drought, the Romans followed the advice of the Sibylline books, and new Greek deities, Demeter, Dionysus (Bacchus) and Persephone (Proserpina) were introduced into Rome. In this case Ceres was added the religious rites which the Greeks paid to Demeter, and the mythological incidents which originated with her. Demeter owed her installation in Rome to the influence of the Greek colony of Cumae, from which the Romans imported grain during a threatened famine. Originally the priestesses of Ceres were Italian Greeks and her temple was Greek in its architecture. Usually Ceres was portrayed with a sceptre, a basket with flowers or fruits, and a garland made of the ears of corn.

    5.
    Culture: Roman
    Temple: temple_of_forge
    Name: Vulcan
Description: This Shrine is dedicated to Vulcan, the Roman god of fire, and more especially of devouring flame, and craftsmanship. Through his identification with the Hephaestus of Greek mythology, he came to be considered as the manufacturer of iron, weapons, and armour for gods and heroes, including the thunderbolts of Jupiter. His forge was located beneath Mount Etna in Sicily. In Ostia, the harbour city of Rome, Vulcan was the chief god as the protector against fire in the grain storages. His festival, the Volcanalia, took place during the height of the Mediterranean drought and the period of highest risk of fire.

    6.
    Culture: Roman
    Temple: temple_of_fun
    Name: Bacchus
Description: This Shrine is dedicated to Bacchus, the Roman god of wine and intoxication who was identified with the Italian god Liber, an old deity of nature and vine. The name Bacchus was originally a mere epithet of Dionysus that was introduced into Rome about the same time as Demeter (Roman Ceres) and Persephone (Roman Proserpine). Sometimes the Bacchanalia, orgies in honour of Dionysus, became so infamous celebrations that they were forbidden by the Roman Senate, partly for political reasons. This noisy and riotous god remained very popular and gave an inspiration for the revelries.

    7.
    Culture: Roman
    Temple: temple_of_governors
    Name: Janus
Description: This Shrine is dedicated to Janus, the double-faced god of beginnings and endings, the protector of gates and doors. As the first king of Latium he also represented the transition between primitive life and civilization, between the countryside and the city, peace and war, and the growing-up of young people. In times of peace the gates of his temple were closed, but in the times of war the gates were kept open so Janus was ready to intervene when necessary. The beginning of the day, of the month, and of the year (January) was sacred to Janus. His priest was the Rex Sacrorum, the representative of the ancient king in his capacity as religious head of the state.

    8.
    Culture: Roman
    Temple: temple_of_healing
    Name: Juno
Description: This Shrine is dedicated to Juno, the chief Roman and Latin goddess, and the special object of worship by women at all the critical moments of life. As the patron goddess of Rome she was called Juno Regina, the queen of heaven and, together with Jupiter and Minerva, belonged to the Capitoline Triad. As the Juno Moneta (“she who alerts”) she guarded over the finances of the state, and she was attributed for saving of Rome against the Gallic invasion on one occasion. Her most important festival as the Juno Lucina, a goddess of childbirth, was called Matronalia, and it was held for married women. Like the Greek Hera, Juno was a majestic figure, wearing a diadem on the head, and the peacock was her symbolic animal.

    9.
    Culture: Roman
    Temple: temple_of_horse
    Name: Gemini
Description: This Shrine is dedicated to Gemini, the “Heavenly Twins” known as Castor, a great horseman, and Pollux, a formidable boxer. Originally Pollux was granted immortality by Zeus, but he persuaded Zeus to allow him to share the gift with Castor. As a result, the two spend alternate days on Olympus (as gods) and in Hades (as deceased mortals). That is why their constellation was visible in the heavens for only six months of the year. The Gemini was also patron deities of horsemanship and protectors of guests and travellers. In the early history of Rome those two had made a miraculous intervention in the battle of Lake Regillus, when they had fought armed and mounted at head of the legions!

    10.
    Culture: Roman
    Temple: temple_of_hunting
    Name: Diana
Description: This Shrine is dedicated to Diana, an ancient Italian goddess of the moon, hunting, and nature, who presides over woodlands. Especially oak groves were sacred to her, and she was the guardian of springs, and the protector of wild animals. At Capua, there was a legend about a sacred hind belonging to Diana, an incredibly long-lived animal, whose fate was bound up the preservation of the city. The worship of Diana was brought to Rome by Latin plebeians, and hence she was regarded as the protectress of the lower classes, and especially of slaves, who could also ask for asylum in her temple. As a fertility deity she was invoked by women to aid conception and delivery. Like a Greek Artemis, Diana was seen as the virgin huntress with a bow and arrows, either hunting through the woods or bathing in the lake, with her followers.

    11.
    Culture: Roman
    Temple: temple_of_justice
    Name: Justitia
Description: This Shrine is dedicated to Justitia, the Roman goddess of justice and the personification of the moral force that underlies the justice system. Originally she was a virgin living among humans until the wrong-doings of mortals forced her to take flight and become the constellation Virgo. In art Justitia was frequently portrayed as a bare-breasted woman evenly balancing both scales, a sword and, at times, wearing a blindfold. For the Romans the Law of the Twelve Tables formed the centrepiece of the constitution of the Roman Republic.

    12.
    Culture: Roman
    Temple: temple_of_law
    Name: Saturn
Description: This Shrine is dedicated to Saturn, an ancient Italian god, who had introduced cultivation to Rome and with it civilization and government. Many believed that Jupiter chased Saturn out of Olympus, and he was taken in by the god Janus, the first king of Latium. The prosperous and peaceful reign of Saturn over Latium was considered the Golden Age. He was usually worshipped together with his wife Ops, the agricultural goddess of sowing and harvest, and his cult continued at Rome along with Jupiter. The great midwinter festival of Saturn was celebrated in memory of his Golden Age when cares were unknown, and innocence, freedom, and gladness ruled throughout the land. The Saturnalia lasted for seven days when the schools were closed; the presents were given; no war was declared or battle fought; no punishment was inflicted.

    13.
    Culture: Roman
    Temple: temple_of_leadership
    Name: Jupiter
Description: This Shrine is dedicated to Jupiter, the supreme god of the Roman pantheon, called dies Pater, "shining father". He was a god of light and sky, and protector of the state and its laws. All days of the full moon (idus) were sacred to him; all emanations from the sky were due to him and in the oldest form of religious thought were probably believed to be manifestations of the god himself. The Romans worshipped him especially as Jupiter Optimus Maximus (all-good, all-powerful). He had a temple on the Capitol, together with Juno and Minerva, but he was the most prominent of this Capitoline triad. Under the Republic Jupiter was the god to whom the consul first offered his prayers on entering office.

    14.
    Culture: Roman
    Temple: temple_of_love
    Name: Venus
Description: This Shrine is dedicated to Venus, the Roman goddess of love and beauty, but originally a Latin vegetation goddess and patroness of gardens and vineyards. As the great moving force in life she was the patroness of all persuasive seductions, between gods and mortals, and between men and women. As Venus Genetrix, she was worshiped as the mother (by Anchises) of the hero Aeneas, the founder of the Roman people; as Venus Felix, the bringer of good fortune; as Venus Victrix, the bringer of victory; and as Venus Verticordia, the protector of feminine chastity. For the time being she was closely identified with Aphrodite, and like the Greek myths, she was the daughter of Jupiter, the wife of Vulcan, and the mistress of Mars.

    15.
    Culture: Roman
    Temple: temple_of_naval
    Name: Neptune
Description: This Shrine is dedicated to Neptune, the Roman god of sea and water, who was thanked for naval victories in the later times. There was also another important Roman god of ports, harbours, and gates called Portunes, who had invented navigation. Despite the fact that the cult of Neptune grew after his equation with Poseidon, he was far less popular among Roman sailors than Poseidon was among the Greek mariners. As a god of fresh waters his two-day festival Neptunalia was celebrated at the height of summer during the season of the greatest dryness. Actually he was held in much higher regard among the Romans as Neptune Equester, the patron god of horse-racing. His most common attribute was a trident, a weapon favoured by Mediterranean fishers.

    16.
    Culture: Roman
    Temple: temple_of_trade
    Name: Mercury
Description: This Shrine is dedicated to Mercury, the Roman god of trade and profit, merchants and travellers, and especially protector of the grain trade. Furthermore Mercury was the mediator between gods and mortals, between the dead and the living, and always in motion, the god of circulation. According to later Roman legend Mercury delivered Jupiter's command to Aeneas, the Trojan equivalent to Odysseus, leave his new love Dido at Carthage and continue his journey to Italy as the gods had planned. In art Mercury was portrayed similarly to the Greek Hermes: dressed in a wide cloak, wearing winged sandals and winged hat. His attributes were a staff with two intertwined snakes, and a purse, a symbol of his connection with commerce.

    17.
    Culture: Roman
    Temple: temple_of_violence
    Name: Mars
Description: This Shrine is dedicated to Mars, the Roman supreme warrior god who was widely respected and especially connected with warfare. Mars was after Jupiter the most important deity of the Roman state, and one who was never so much affected by foreign influences as to lose his original character. War and agriculture were thus the two factors of human life and experience which were unquestionably prominent in the cult of Mars, and explained his importance in a community like that of Rome. His main temple was at Campus Martius, which was the exercising ground for the army, and when war broke out the general shook the sacred lances of Mars, saying “Mars vigila!” (“Mars awake!). In art Mars was portrayed as a warrior in full battle armour, wearing a crested helmet and bearing a shield. His sacred animals were the wolf and the woodpecker, and he was accompanied by Fuga and Timor, the personifications of flight and fear.

    18.
    Culture: Roman
    Temple: temple_of_victory
    Name: Victoria
Description: This Shrine is dedicated to Victoria, the Roman goddess of victory, who was especially worshipped by the triumphant army. She may have adopted from Jupiter Victor (conqueror) or from the Sabine agricultural goddess Vacuna. As a personification of victory, Victoria was held in higher regard by the Romans then her counterpart Nike by the Greeks, and she was normally depicted with wings and often carrying trophies from defeated enemies.

I have posted my suggestion for a German pantheon and stated my reasons, but I will take no offence if you choose differently.

I am going on holiday, so I will not be able to provide any more input for over a week, but I leave you with one final thought:

    Perhaps
the Germans should have Battleforge (Ull) instead of Forge (Wiolant) because their metalwork really wasn't as good as that of the Celts.

    Default Re: Job: Temple Descriptions

I´ve been thinking about those temples of violence, and I might have found a proper solution to the question. We could use SCYTHES, the son of Herakles for the Scythian temple of violence, and then I wrote new descriptions for HERAKLES as temple of violence for Greek and for Pontus. Then we don´t need to use Herakles more than two places, one for the Greeks, and one for Macedonians (Pontus).

I shall think about those other open questions little bit later, I just wanted to finish those Roman descriptions first, and then this temple of violence thing.

    Here are the new descriptions:

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Culture: Scythian faction
    Temple: temple_of_violence
    Name: Scythes
Description: This Shrine is dedicated to Scythes, the first king of the Scythians and the son of Heracles as the Greeks who settled round the Black Sea have told.
According to legend Heracles had three sons with a serpent-maiden who had hidden the hero’s horses and required him to be as the father of her children.
Before he left she wanted to know what was to be done about her three sons once they grew up. Two of those sons, Agathyrsus and Gelonus proved not able to be enough in pursuit of the proposed prize and were gone out of the country expelled by their mother, but the youngest of them, Scythes, having brought it to completion, stayed behind in the country. So, Scythes, the son of Heracles became the first king in Scythia, even though according to another strong tradition the true forefather of Scythians was Targitaus.

    Culture: Pontus
    Temple: temple_of_violence
    Name: Herakles (Macedonian version)
Description: This Shrine is dedicated to Heracles, the greatest of Greek heroes and demigod who was worshipped as the divine protector of mankind. In art Heracles was portrayed as a muscular man, with club and lion-skin cape, and in literature he was represented as an enormously strong man with good but volatile temper. After many warlike campaigns Heracles, the son of Zeus and Alcmene, became an Olympian god, because he had performed the twelve labours and aiding the gods in their war against the Giants. This ultimate hero-god had a special meaning for Macedonians, whose kings considered themselves as descendants of Heracles, Heracleidae.

    Culture: Greek
    Temple: temple_of_violence
    Name: Herakles (Greek version)
Description: This Shrine is dedicated to Heracles, the greatest of Greek heroes and demigod who was worshipped as the divine protector of mankind. Ethically, Heracles symbolized the attainment of glory and immortality by toil and suffering, and he became an Olympian hero-god noted for his immense strength. Many young men adopted him as their patron in warfare and their ideal in military training. The major symbols of this national hero were the lion-skin cape and hood, his club, and his bow and arrows. In Greece his main cult centre was at Boeotian Thebes, his place of birth according to myth, but Heracles was revered as widely as his legend was known.

    Default Re: Job: Temple Descriptions

Here´s news from Valhalla! I did some further reseach and checking with that material that Suppanat and Archbaker had compiled from those ancient Germanic gods. I also wanted to add some general notions about the ancient Germania if and when it was possible. I shall send a separate post to explain some of those major changes that I did after my reseach in library and in internet.

Here´s THE GERMANIC PANTHEON FOR THE XGM:

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

    1.
    Culture: Germanic
    Temple: temple_of_battle
    Name: Ziu
Description: This shrine is dedicated to Ziu, a fearless Germanic god of war, who inspired courage and heroism in battle. He was brave and eager for combat, granting abundance of fame, but also cruel and bloodthirsty. Ziu was also the protector of council meetings and upholder of peace and justice. Just as Woden directed victories in battle, so Ziu, the boldest of the sky gods, revealed himself as the actual war god in the increasingly violent times. Military emblems which his followers took in the battle were kept in sacred groves, and at that time warfare had three basic forms, blood feuds, raids for booty and larger wars involving whole Germanic tribes.

    2.
    Culture: Germanic
    Temple: temple_of_battleforge
    Name: Ull
Description: This shrine is dedicated to Ull, “the Glorious One”, and a Germanic god of archery, duelling, and hunting. This cunning wizard possessed many warrior-like attributes and was called upon for aid in individual combat. Ull was also associated with important inventions like snowshoes, the bow, and the shield, and he was noted for the love of the chase. In the historical times the Celtic craftsmanship and metallurgy had a strong influence on the material culture of Germania, and weapons and slaves were an important part of that trade.

    3.
    Culture: Germanic
    Name: Nerthus
    Temple: temple_of_farming
Description: This shrine is dedicated to Nerthus, the Germanic mother goddess, whose worship centred on a temple in a sacred grove on an island in the Baltic Sea. To ensure a good harvest, a statue of Nerthus was carried between fortunate settlements on a wagon pulled by two white heifers. The statue itself was hidden under a cloth, however, and only a few priests were allowed to look upon it. After the selected slaves bathed the goddess in the lake, the slaves were then drowned, as sacrifices to Nerthus. The worship of Mother Earth was the essential part of the ancient Germanic religion together with the Sky Gods, and she was venerated by almost every tribe, and all hostilities ceased during her holy days.

    4.
    Culture: Germanic
    Temple: temple_of_fertility
    Name: Frija
Description: This shrine is dedicated to Frija, the Germanic goddess of marriage, midwifery and fertility, the patroness of mothers, and the consort of Wodan. She was also the protectress of household and feminine crafts such as weaving and sewing. Besides Frija as a mother goddess was called upon to protect sons when they went into war, and she was able to transform into a falcon. Germanic religion also encompassed belief in female guardian spirits, elves, and dwarfs. Rites were normally conducted in the open or in groves and forests.

    5.
    Culture: Germanic
    Name: Wieland
    Temple: temple_of_forge
Description: This Shrine is dedicated to Wieland, a Germanic master-smith, who was a lame because of the tradition of hamstringing enslaved craftsmen. He was forced to work for a king who had captured him. Later Wieland gained his full revenge by secretly killing king’s two sons and making ghastly but beautiful treasures for the royal family from their skulls, eyes and teeth. Then he seduced king’s daughter and flew away with the aid of mechanical wings he had forged. Wieland was also known as a good teacher of both the physical and magical uses of metals and gemstones.

    6.
    Culture: Germanic
    Temple: temple_of_fun
    Name: Phol
Description: This Shrine is dedicated to Phol, the Germanic god of fertility and the noblest of the gods who ruled over rain and sunshine. It was good to call upon him for good harvests and for peace. Phol watched over the prosperity of mankind, and he was especially associated with wine, drink and lovemaking. His female counterpart was Volla, the beautiful goddess of lovers.

    7.
    Culture: Germanic
    Temple: temple_of_healing
    Name: Ostara
Description: This Shrine is dedicated to Ostara, the Germanic goddess of the radiant dawn, eternal youth, and rebirth. Bringing in the end of winter, with the days brighter and growing longer after the vernal equinox, Ostara had a passion for new life. Her presence was felt in the flowering of plants and the birth of babies, both animal and human. The rabbit (well known for its propensity for rapid reproduction) was her sacred animal. All cultures living in temperate (or winter dominated) climates celebrated the coming of spring with major rituals and festivals.

    8.
    Culture: Germanic
    Temple: temple_of_horse
    Name: Sunna
Description: This Shrine is dedicated to Sunna, the German goddess of the sun. Every day, Sunna rode across the sky in her chariot, pulled by two horses with shining manes. She was chased during the day by a wolf that wanted to devour her. It was fated that the wolf would eventually catch up with Sunna and ate her, but she would then be replaced by her daughter. The horse and the deer were also the sacred animals for the sun goddess. In the animal sacrifice the horse had a prominent role, and most of the body (excluding skull, tail and feet) were served as a ritual meal.

    9.
    Culture: Germanic
    Temple: temple_of_hunting
    Name: Holle
Description: This Shrine is dedicated to Holle, the ancient Germanic goddess who was the embodiment of the three stages of womanhood, the Maiden, the Mother and the Crone. While governing household duties like spinning and flax, she was also strongly associated with the outside wilderness, wild animals and places remote from man. Holle was associated with birth, love, death, the earth, and weather. This Queen of Winter was later linked with the Roman goddess Diana (the wild hunt) and with the Greek goddess Hecate (witches).

    10.
    Culture: german faction
    Temple: temple_of_governors
    Name: Gausus
Description: This Shrine is dedicated to Gausus, the hero-king, the son of Wodan and the progenitor of all Germanic nobles. His very name may represent the eponymous founder of an early tribe ancestral to the Gautar (Geats), Gutans (Goths) and Gutar (Gotlanders). As a mythical ancestor of royal houses he was seen as a legitimate source of power to ambitious Barbarian leaders who were proud to claim of their Gautic descent.

    11.
    Culture: Germanic
    Temple: temple_of_justice
    Name: Forsite
Description: This Shrine is dedicated to Forsite, the Germanic god of justice who settled lawsuits, arguments, and quarrels. He was considered the wisest and most eloquent of gods. In contrast to his fellow god Ziu, who presided over the bloody affairs of carnal law, Forsite presided over disputes resolved by mediation. As a chairman he sat in his hall, dispensing justice to those who sought it, and was said to be able to always provide a solution that all parties considered fair. Forsite was so respected that only the most solemn oaths were uttered in his name.

    12.
    Culture: Germanic
    Temple: temple_of_law
    Name: Mannus
Description: This Shrine is dedicated to Mannus, the mythical ancestor of the Germanic people, whose father was Tuisto, a god sprung from the earth. The nature of Tuisto may have been similar to that of the proto-giant: hermaphroditic and capable of a sort of cosmic parthenogenesis. The name of Mannus means human or man, and it stems from the same root as the Indo-Iranian Manu, progenitor of humanity. Furthermore Mannus had three sons who gave their names to the Germanic tribes of the Ingaevones, Herminones, and the Istaevones. What exactly the tribal grouping was based upon can only be conjectured, though probably its origin is to be sought rather in religion than in political union.

    13.
    Culture: Germanic
    Temple: temple_of_leadership
    Name: Wodan
Description: This shrine is dedicated to Wodan, the Germanic chief sky god, the god of victory in battle, and the lord of mantic inspiration. As a war god the victory was achieved in battle, when he pointed his spear in favour of one army over the other. Wodan inspired frenzy in warriors, insight in priests, and poetry in poets, and he was credited with special skill in magic and auguries. One of Wodan's well known titles was also the god of the hanged, when he wanted to reach new extremes in his wisdom through spiritual practices and mental discipline, but also through crisis and sacrifice. The Cimbri sometimes hanged their captives over the bronze cauldrons, while the priestess cut their throats. These sacrifices to Wodan would then later be thrown into sacred lakes.

    14.
    Culture: Germanic
    Name: Volla
    Temple: temple_of_love
Description: This shrine is dedicated Volla, the Germanic goddess of fertility, beauty, and lovers, and the fairest of all beings. She was the golden-haired goddess who brought fecundity to the earth, especially of grain. Volla was also fond of love songs, and she was the female counterpart to Phol, the noblest of the gods.

    Name: Niord
Description: This Shrine is dedicated to Niord, the Germanic god of the sea, winds, and coastal waters. As Nerthus ruled over the bounty of the land, her male counterpart Niord ruled over the bounty of the sea. Germanic fishermen invoked him for safe journey and a good catch; after all he was the patron god of all seafarers and shipping. Besides the fishing, the amber has been collected by people living along the shores of the Baltic Sea since the Bronze Age. The ancient amber trade route ran from the Baltic Sea, down the Elbe River, and on to the Danube.

    Name: Zisa
Description: This shrine is dedicated Zisa, the Germanic goddess of autumn and the harvest, and the consort of Ziu. The similarity of the name Zisa to Ziu leads to the conclusion that the two deities were closely related, and the etymological connection to Zeus and Dea, points to an extremely ancient origin. Several places in Germania were named after her, and Zisa (Latin Cizae) shared attributes known of her husband (having patronage over battle and warfare), likewise receiving prisoners of war and some portion of the spoils won. In the early times the Germans allowed foreign merchants into their territory more because they wanted sell their war-booty than to buy from them. Otherwise their main exports were amber, slaves, fur, and cattle.

    Name: Donar
Description: This shrine is dedicated to Donar, “the Thunderer”, and a Germanic god of storm, thunder and lightning. He travelled across the sky in a wagon and held a hammer, which was sometimes a symbol of fertility. As a providing god he caused rain to fall in the fields. In particular, the mighty oak was linked with the sky god who sent thunder. Furthermore Donar was a violent hero and the strongest defender of the gods, and the warriors who prayed to him fight with the fury of a thunderstorm.

    Name: Wurt
Description:This Shrine is dedicated to Wurt, the Germanic concept of fate as a destiny what has been chosen or willed. In other words, Wurt is not an end-point, but something continually happening around us at all times. While a man's courage holds out, he has a hope of winning through since Wurt “the way things happen” will often work to help such a man, as long as he is not doomed; conversely if a man is doomed then not even his courage can help him stand against 'the course of events'." In the myths of many cultures the deities of fortune and history wove or spun out the future, the very image ancient Germanic tribes gave to their goddess called Wurt, who manifested the forces of destiny in an anthropomorphic archetype.
