    OVERVIEW: PRO DEO ET REGE is aimed at improved historical accuracy and realism. At two turns per year, this mod hopes to provide for a slower and more challenging campaign. Forging and maintaining an empire will not be an easy task as the player will face many obstacles in his quest for medieval dominance.

    KINGDOMS EDITION: PRO DEO ET REGE: Kingdoms Edition inludes the following features:

    - Hotseat Campaigns.
    - Control AI Reinforcements.
    - Boiling Oil.
    - AI Unit Recruitment tweaks.
    - Campaign AI Tweaks.
    - Novgorod as a playable faction in the Grand Campaign
    - 20 Kingdoms units have been added to the PDER Area of Recruitment recruitment pool.

    WARNING!
    THIS MOD WILL NOT RUN UNLESS YOU HAVE THE NECESSARY KINGDOMS CAMPAIGN UNPACKED! THIS IS NECESSARY BECAUSE NONE OF THE FILES NECESSARY TO PLAY NOVGOROD OR THE KINGDOMS UNITS IN THE GRAND CAMPAIGN ARE INCLUDED IN THIS DOWNLOAD!

    RATHER, THESE FILES ARE COPIED OVER FROM YOUR HARD-DRIVE TO THE PRO DEO ET REGE MOD FOLDER USING AN INCLUDED BATCH FILE! THIS IS DONE FOR LEGAL REASONS!

    INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:

    1] To install this mod, simply follow the steps outlined in the Installer Program, which by default installs Pro Deo et Rege to the following folder:
    C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\mods

    2] In addition, you must have unpacked versions of each of the following Medieval II Total War:Kingdoms campaigns in order to play this mod:

    - Britannia
    - Crusades
    - Teutonic

    In order to unpack these campaigns, you must run each of the following batch files found in your SEGA\Medieval II Total War\tools\unpacker folder:

    - unpack_britannia.bat
    - unpack_crusades.bat
    - unpack_teutonic.bat

    AFTER UNPACKING ANY OF THE KINGDOMS CAMPAIGNS OR THE MAIN M2TW, YOU NEED TO DELETE THESE TWO FILES FROM EACH OF THE CAMPAIGNS' DATA FOLDERS:

    -descr_geography_new.txt
    -descr_geography_new.db


    [COLOR="Red"]FAILURE TO DO SO WILL RESULT IN A CTD EVERYTIME YOU ENTER BATTLE!

    3] After you have unpacked all of these campaigns, simply run the PDER_Kingdoms_Copy_Files.bat file found in your main Medievall II Tota War folder.

    This batch file will copy over the necessary unpacked Kingdoms files needed to play PRO DEO ET REGE: Kingdoms Edition.

    4] Once installed you should use use the PDER_Kingdoms_v0.1a.bat file found in your Medieval II Total War\mods\PDER_Kingdoms_v0.1a folder to run the game.


    NOTE: Should you not wish to use the unpacked Kingdoms Campaigns file apart from this mod and wish to free up hard-drive space, simply delete all but the following folders after unpacking:

    -animations
    -fmv
    -sounds
    -world

    Hi,
    it doesnt seem to work for me. The interface is all messed up - big white blocks, no menus or text in the campaign game.

    - I unpacked the three campaigns
    - I installed the mod
    - I used the 'copy'file' to copy the nessecary files.

    Any idea?

    Looks like some other people were experiencing this problem when they unpacked and tried to use the --io switch.

    Maybe in non-English versions? As it worked on my American version. Try opening the Launch_PDER_Kingdoms_v0.1.bat file and removing the --io.file. first command at the end of it. Seems the game may be problems directing that with the Kingdoms.exe.

    Also, I'm not sure if I put the -io command in the .cfg file. But if it's there, i would remove that too from it.

    Let me know if this works.

    EDIT - also, this isn't necessarily directed to you billydilly, but please remember to delete these two files from each of the unpacked Kingdoms campaigns:

    descr_geography_new.txt
    descr_geography_new.db

    You'll get a CTD whenever you enter battle if you don't! Cheers!

    UPDATE! FOR SOME REASON, PEOPLE WITH AN UNPACKED VERSION OF THE MAIN MEDIEVAL II TOTAL WAR GAME ARE EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH THE DISPLAY TEXT.

    POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS:

    1] In the mods/americas, mods/british isles, mods/crusades or
    mods/teutonic data directory just rename the /ui and /text directories

    2] Try deleting the unpacked files from each of the Kingdoms campaigns after the PDER Copy file has copied them over to your PDER mod folder. In short, everything but these files:

    -animations
    -fmv
    -sounds
    -world


    3] If you can, unpack the Main MIITW files.

    Not sure about adding them into the Grand Campaign for PDER. Think the Britannia campaign best represents them as a faction.

    But you're right, it's really not too much work.

    Updated the download link to (hopefully) fix the display problems people were experiencing.

    If you've already downloaded it and haven't yet unpacked the Main Medieval II game, I'm also attaching .SD files that need to be placed in the MAIN M2TW folder to correct the display issue.

    I have the original (no pirate, of course) MTW2 and Kingdoms in spanish, when i want unpack before install your mod i have no program for this!
    I have a Windows XP and i think that it works under MSDOS, isntŽit?

    Please Socal, gimme any help!

    The unpacker for all the campaigns should be in this folder - Medieval II Total War\tools.

    As I've said before, Socal_infidel, I'd advise against adding Ireland as a faction in the Grand Campaign. The NPC lesser faction represents Ireland's role in Europe far better, especially as a united Ireland was a pipe dream throughout the period except with the nominal 'High Kings'. Having their units available for training (particularly the Ceitheirne, and Horseboys) would be excellent, though.

    Also, with the 'proper' Irish units now, perhaps the Galloglaich can become mercenary-only units, as that would reflect reality a good deal better.

    Norway and Lithuania would make excellent additions, though. Adding in Paganism as a religion would probably be possible, wouldn't it? Be nice to make the Mongols pagan along with the Lithuanians. Islamic Mongols jar a bit for me, especially when they join jihads...

    As far as I can tell the same goes for many factions in this game. Like the French,(Actually had a King but didn't always control their vassals) Sicily,(constantly having to deal with internal instability) Arabic Egypt(also unstable) Scotland(Pretty stable kingdom but very unimportant/obscure in the Middle Ages) and of course the Turks(Who were actually many smaller kingdoms/Sultanates/Atabegs that CA clumped into one. See the Gauls and Germans in RTW) Besides, Total war is about changing history, why should Ireland be left out if there is an empty faction slot that could be filled? If he wants Social_Infedel can add them as a faction. If you've got a problem with that then don't play the mod.

    I've been fallowing the progress of your mod Social and I'm pleased with what I've seen. If I get a copy of Kingdoms I'll be sure to give this a whirl!

    I'd quite like to keep playing PDeR, seeing as I've been doing so for many versions now, and if Ireland was added of course I would still play it, as it's a minor thing. However, while the idea of Ireland conquering Europe is only marginally less silly than Scotland conquering Europe, or Portugal conquering Europe, Ireland is notable in having next to no diplomatic relations with any other nation states at all, except on a very local level (such as with the Dublin Norse). This is not the case even for Scotland, which had important links with various states of the Holy Roman Empire, France, and the Danes and Norwegians, not to mention England, of course. If Ireland is added as a faction, then Wales might as well be added too, as they're of equal importance to the British Isles and nowhere else, and the British Isles are such a small geographical area that the two existing player factions (Scotland and England) are more than enough for it.

    It's not some mad anti-Irish bias that leads me to say 'don't include Ireland as a full faction'. It's just common sense.

    You really don't seem to understand much Irish history. First of all, Ireland DID have diplomatic connections to the outside world. For example, Irish kings would send troops into Iberia during the Reconquista,(Alongside the Scots) and Irish knights also participated in the first Crusade to Jerusalem.(Did Scotland do that? ) Secondly, Ireland traded with the Iberian kingdoms and founded quite a few monasteries across Europe at this time.(This doesn't necessarily mean that they were under the direct control of the Irish Kings, but shows that the Goidilic Kings weren't deaf and dumb. )

    This is not the case even for Scotland, which had important links with various states of the Holy Roman Empire, France, and the Danes and Norwegians, not to mention England, of course.
    Again this game is about changing history. I don't mean to take any thunder away from the Scots(Hell, I'm Scottish for Christ sake.)but it doesn't prove that, had Ireland(Or hell even Wales!) been united under a similar kingdom/state, that they could not do so as well. In fact this only strengthens my case.

    Well actually that would be great! If Norway and Sweden were added, we'd have the same situation for Scandinavia.(Which, FYI is much smaller in tiles on the GC map then the British Isles. Plus Denmark or Sweden would probably swallow Norway up anyway.) We already have four Italian factions. Whats one more British Isles faction gonna do?

    In this case the sense does not seem so common.

    But In the end it's not really a big deal. If I get Kingdoms and Social decided not to add Ireland, then I'd probably remove Genoa/Milan and put them in their place. So it's all good.
