I suspect there are two main types of people in the Stainless Steel forum:
a) those who are experienced and enjoy modding the game and modding other mods to tweak them so that they more closely match their expectations of what the game should be;
b) those who just want a finished mod to test, play and enjoy and who get confused if they start adding too many mini-mods, patches, fixes etc. Happy to test the complete package but as things stand it's hard to say what the complete package is.
Now that Kingdoms is out I expect many people will take a break from SS to try out Kingdoms and many bring some ideas from that as well (and maybe use Unknown_Knight's unofficial mod(s) as well.
I would imagine that KK would like (though he'll speak for himself) to issue a complete package SS that incorporates what he (and hopefully most of us here) feels is the best combination of mods which work within the SS framework.
Perhaps it is time to decide which of the competing mods should go into the "standard" SS package (call it SS 5.0) which is Kingdoms compatible. Once that is decided we can decide on any necessary tweaks to those mods. Only if there is a stable package can it properly tested at the campaign level. At present people are updating mods quicker than players can play out a single campaign, making it difficult to know exactly how they affect game play.
