Default Thinking of buying Medieval II. Some questions...

    Hello all!

I have been a Total War fan since the days of Shogun, and having quit WoW recently, I need a new game to have some fun with. I read through this forum a bit, and many people seem quite satisfied about the game.

I honestly fear the game is just a Rome with new graphics, I don't want to waste money if that is the case.

    1. How is the AI? Still as dumb as in Rome?
    2. How fast are battles? Do they last 2 minutes as in Rome? Or are they more like the old Medieval?
    3. Does the AI actually know how to handle diplomacy?
    4. Is the game plagued by bugs?
    5. How is the support of the game? Are they still only making one patch that doesn't fix everything?

Just answer as honestly as possbile, budget is really tight

Thanks in advance and sorry for sounding cynical.

    1. A bit better... I reckon the BI AI was good enough and this is a bit better.
    2. Mods, quite a lot slower then rome though
    3. Yes that is very much improved compared to RTW/BI
    4. Not really
    5. Erm what needs fixing again?

About what needs fixing... For Medieval and Rome, I remember them only releasing ONE single patch, and if there were still bugs, imbalances etc, you would have to buy the expansion to have that fixed. My question is if that is still the case with Medieval II.

But anyway, quite happy about the answers so far, keep them coming :p

There's not any game breaking bugs to be honest, just be sure to get the 1.2 patch, otherwise the game is nearly unplayable. And you still have a huge ammount of great mods out there to keep you busy for years to come, it's a worthy buy i assure you.

Well you need BI to fix the AI. Otherwise 1.5 works for RTW with no expansions... what?

M2TW is a great game. The battles are enjoyable and the units don't route as much as in RTW so the battles are longer and more enjoyable.

Ehh I disagree... battles are probably one of the worst parts of m2tw (they are still really good... just not as great as RTR).

I'm sure discussing non legal versions "Hey everyone can I play online with this this thing I got off a torrent." Is borderline but saying "I recomend downloading it as a torrent" is absolutely against forum rules. No I wouldnt recomend downloading it. Get the demo...

definitely a wonderful game, and some mods are pretty good too.
If you like this kind of game, buy it without any hesitation.

When the game first came out I thought it was awesome. Now the game is even more awesome with mods. My favorite one is Stainless Steel but there are a lot of others so you can choose which one you like the most.

Also, i recomend you to get a........not so legal version first, to see if your pc can run it well or not, this game gives most pcs a beating, so i suggest you to see if it actually runs on your pc before wasting 60 dollars.

BUT, IF IT WORKS, buy the game, i'm only telling you to make sure your pc can run the game, do not keep on using that version if it does.
